Reminder
- Please send in your child's reading satchel every day. Our new home readers are covered and ready to go so will be coming home in the next week or so. Students MUST keep these in their satchels to ensure they are protected. We will not be sending home readers without satchels.
- We go to Library on Monday so please ensure your child's satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home.
- Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.
- Please be mindful that mornings are a time filled with lesson prepping, staff collaboration and preparation for the day. We are always happy to schedule meetings with parents and guardians on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, alternatively feel free to email us with any questions, comments or concerns.
Upcoming Learning
Literacy
Over the next two weeks, we will continue working on our Stage 7.4 sounds 'i_e' as in five strikes and 'i' as in find a giant. We will be reviewing 'acorns in April' 'chase to the gate,' 'ce/ci/cy' as in space city racing and 'ge/gi/gy' as in a ginger cat allergy.
We will be continuing to look at interesting vocabulary we find in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and using this language to help us to persuade a reader. We are almost finished the book, and everyone is very excited!! Hopefully we can sneak in a movie viewing before the end of term! We have been brainstorming vocabulary based on our senses with students imagining themselves in the habitat of their animal and considering what they might see, smell, hear, taste and feel. This will support the students in creating engaging, persuasive texts to sell the habitat of their animal to others. Keep your eyes peeled as we might share some of these in the next few editions of our newsletter.
Numeracy
Over the next fortnight, we will continue building on our knowledge and addition and subtraction and the connection between. We will also be introducing the concept of multiplicative thinking through the use of some picture books beginning with One Is A Snail Ten Is A Crab. We have repeated some lessons over the past fortnight to ensure understanding is achieved so you may notice that our 'spiel' is the same as last fortnight! Check out the story below:
Inquiry
In Inquiry, we are well into our learning about using Earth's resource sustainably. Students have built on their specific vocabulary in this unit, as well as showing what they know about energy, water and soil and exploring ways to conserve energy. We were also lucky enough to have Professor Bunsen come and visit us- check out some pictures below!
We have been using loads of our Inquiry time to rehearse for the upcoming concert too...not long to go now!!!
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, we will continue exploring 'Help Seeking' strategies with a specific focus on skills to support peers and will discuss the types of situations in which they would be best to seek adult assistance. Students will also develop an understanding of the importance of finding the language to name problems when help-seeking.
A Celebration of Learning
Book Week was an absolute highlight in our last fortnight!! We have enjoyed discussing our favourite books, completing a craft activity with a buddy class and continuing our magical adventure reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Check out our GREAT GUM MACHINES below!!!
