PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.  As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways. We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land. Thank you.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Throwback to last year when we had our SOD turning event and the area of where the new building was going to go was just a mountain of rubble and soil, it's certainly transformed and looks very different today!

Our building is finally completed, and we are in!!!!!  All our Year 3-6 classes, as well as the SEL program are in and fully operating back to a normal schedule.

I am currently working with our maintenance crew to build and install cabinetry for our science room and when that is all sorted Mr Mouncer will be able to move into the new science room and operate his lessons from there, I am hoping this will be completed by next week.

The library will be the last piece of the puzzle and moved in sometime next term.

THANK YOU

I would like to formally thank our community who were able to attend our working bee on Saturday and help support our community with the very important move of furniture and teacher/student resources into the new building. I cannot thank everyone enough for what was achieved in such a very short period of time, by 11.30am everything that needed to be moved had been. I was blown away.

Thank you to all our parents and friends who came along, to NEWPOL staff that supported us on Saturday, to Team Kids staff and their children who were absolutely incredible, and to the staff who were able to come along on Saturday and gave up their time, and for their continued hard work in making sure the students settled in quickly. The transition was one of the smoothest I have ever seen. A credit to everyone, I am so proud, Thank you!

STAFFING UPDATE AND RECRUITMENT

All staff contracts that could have had their contracts “rolled over” for another 12 months or made ongoing have been. We are in this position as we have 12 full time ongoing staff members who are on leave, working part time and will continue to do so or are on leave or who will be on leave in 2025 and 2026. Legally I must hold these ongoing positions open.

I’m now waiting for 2 staff members who are on LWOP and maternity leave to inform me of their intentions for 2025. I am hoping to have this information by the end of September. All staff are having their professional discussions with me and are expressing where they would like to be in 2025 professionally and I will then place all staff respectively. This information will not be released to the community yet in case I need to recruit or change the workforce plan.

Depending on our student numbers for 2025 which at the moment, are sitting at 540. I really need to know if families will not be returning to MPS next year.  We know that sharing this information can be uncomfortable and awkward, however for me it translates to either recruiting or having to let staff go. Please let the me or the office know sooner rather than later.

ART SHOW IN THE NEW BUILDING (GROUND FLOOR) 11th SEPTEMBER

3.30pm- 5.00pm

Mrs Katis has been busy planning and organising with the students two pieces of artwork around the Roald Dahl books with the theme: ‘A World of Pure Imagination’

Each year level has been immersed in these books, the images and children have produced two pieces of Artwork that we are looking to show case to the community on Wednesday 11th September straight after school. EVERYONE is welcome to attend and have a wander around the new building as pieces will be highlighted on both levels. We look forward to the Art show and Mrs Katis is very proud of the quality of the pieces that will be on display.
