Year 3/4 Hooptime BASKETBALL
On Wednesday 14th August we took 40 excited Grade 3 & 4 basketball players along with our awesome Year 10 student coaches, to the Pakenham hooptime basketball competition. With two Future Stars and three Rookies teams, Lakeside was well represented across numerous courts.
Well done to our students who demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, determination and enjoyment in getting out there and playing basketball for Lakeside College. A special thanks to our year 10 coaches, who without, this day would not have been possible.
A special mention to our Future Stars 3 team “The Crocs” who were the winners of their competition and move on to the Hooptime Regional finals to be played in October.

Zanni Louise – Author Visit
We were honoured to have renowned author Zanni Louise visit our Primary School on Thursday, 15th August. Zanni captivated us with her tales of inspiration, leaving us dazzled and amazed. She generously shared insights into the world of publishing, revealing that it can take up to five years for a book to make its way into readers' hands. Her personal writing journey served as a light of encouragement, inspiring us to never abandon our dreams, no matter how challenging the path may seem.
Zanni treated us to excerpts from her published works, showcasing her storytelling prowess. Her narratives had us in fits of laughter, as she used the power of the audience to bring her tales to life. Beyond entertaining, her session was incredibly informative, she taught us about the creative process behind crafting her compelling stories.
As we reflect on Zanni's visit, we are reminded of the power of storytelling and the magic it brings to our lives. Her presence was a reminder that anyone, no matter how young or old, can tap into their imagination and share their unique voice with the world. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Zanni for gracing us with her wisdom and talent. She inspired us to share our words and stories with our community.
Meet the Writer Afternoon
It was a delight to see the community come together at our recent Meet the Writer event, where we had the opportunity to showcase the incredible writing talents of our students from Prep to Year 6. The event drew a wonderful turnout of guests who joined us in celebrating the achievements of our junior authors.
As I perused through the writing pieces on display, I was truly in awe of the creativity and skill demonstrated by our young writers. Each piece reflected the unique voice and perspective of its author, showcasing a diverse range of topics and writing styles. From imaginative short stories to thought-provoking poetry, the array of writing pieces produced was nothing short of amazing.
What struck me the most was the evident progression in the writing journey of our students, from our enthusiastic 5-year-olds to our more seasoned 12-year-olds. It was a testament to the hard work and dedication put in by both the students and our educators in nurturing and developing their writing skills. I couldn't help but feel an immense sense of pride seeing how far our young authors had come.
I would like to extend a special shoutout to the entire Primary School community for their unwavering commitment to fostering a love for writing and for inspiring our wider community. It is through events like these that we not only showcase the talent within our school but also encourage a culture of creativity and expression.
Our Inaugural Meet the Writer event was not just a celebration of writing but a testament to the power of education in shaping young minds. I look forward to witnessing the continued growth and success of our budding writers as they continue to explore the world through their words.
Thank you to all of our community members who came along to support this event. Your presence made this occasion very special.
Book Week
As our Primary community embraces the theme Reading is Magic during Book Week, there is a profound excitement within our school walls. Students of all ages have enthusiastically delved into the shortlisted books, embarking on literary explorations and in-depth text analyses.
In our classrooms, we have witnessed remarkable creativity as students engage in various forms of expression, be it through writing pieces or art creations inspired by the stories they have immersed themselves in. These activities not only foster a love for reading but also nurture critical thinking and imaginative skills.
We encourage parents to engage in discussions with their children about the books they are reading at school and at home. Conversations around likes, dislikes, and interpretations not only strengthen the home-school connection but also enhance oral literacy skills, providing invaluable learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
To culminate our Book Week festivities, on Monday, August 26th, a performance based on the shortlisted books will entertain our Primary students. This eagerly anticipated annual event promises to bring the magic of literature to life, creating lasting memories for our young readers.
Special appreciation goes to Deb Mibus for her unwavering support in nurturing a culture of reading and learning within our Primary School.
As educators, we are proud to witness the passion for reading instilled in our students through events like the Book Parade. We continue to look forward to nurturing this love for literature and creativity throughout the rest of this academic year.
