Year 1/2 Report

Literacy

In Literacy, the students will explore the difference between Fiction and nonfiction texts.  They will be immersed in nonfiction texts and learn to identify the various features. As they delve deeper into this text type, they will understand that an author of nonfiction texts, write about real people, places and things. Throughout the Term the students will also develop comprehension strategies such as questioning and summarising to help better understand the text they are reading. In Writing, the students will be writing information text and learn to record facts about a topic.  The students will continue to revise and edit their work to improve their writing. They will also continue to work on their reading and writing goals.

Numeracy

In Numeracy the students will continue to develop number sense by counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s as well as from different starting points. The students will learn and describe duration of time and events. They will also explore data by asking questions and collecting data and representing the information using simple displays. Throughout the term. The students will also continue to work on addition and subtraction as well as multiplication concepts.

Inquiry

In Inquiry this Term, the students will continue to work on being healthy and safe. The focus will be on the importance of rest and sleep for mental wellbeing.  Also the students will be exploring feelings and various calming strategies that allow them to make better choices. The students will also learn the importance of water safety and being sun smart.
