Start of Term Newsletter – Term 2
Welcome back everyone to Term 2!
The Prep teachers are very excited about the many fun activities planned this term for our Prep students.
Literacy
In Reading, the Preps will
- continue to develop their phonemic and phonological awareness skills
- practice their reading goals
- learn to identify and make rhyming words
- learn to make predictions before reading
- sequence the events that happen in a story.
In Writing, the Preps will
- learn to write recounts about their personal experiences
- practice recording the beginning, middle and end sounds they hear in words.
- experiment with starting their sentence with a capital letter and ending with a full stop.
In Handwriting, the Preps will
- continue to develop their fine motor skills
- practice using the correct pencil grip
- practice forming of letters of the alphabet correctly
In Numeracy, the Preps will
- collect data using ‘yes’ and ‘no’ questions and using different graphs to display their data
- use directional language to help them give and follow instructions
- learn about 2D shapes and explore some 3D objects within their environment eg. cubes
- continue to develop their oral counting skills by counting by 1s to 100, starting at 0
- practice skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s
- develop their knowledge of number bonds up to 10
- explore using money by engaging in role play activities e.g. buying food from the shops.
In SEL, the Preps will:
- continue to learn about the core emotions through the Mindful Aus Program
- learn about the school values of Cooperation, Respect and Learning and explain what they mean
- develop their understanding of what ‘big’ and ‘small’ problems are and name some strategies that they can use to solve these problems.
In Inquiry, the Preps will:
- be able to name members of the community that help them
- actively participating in several incursions to help them learn about different community helpers e.g. police officers and firefighters.

Public Holiday-King’s Birthday-Monday 10th June
Italian Carnivale afternoon on Wednesday 12th June
PJ and Movie Day-Friday 28th June
Reminders
- School starts at 8:50am and ends at 3:10pm
- Hats are not required in Term 2 & 3
- Please remember to bring a jacket and/or a jumper which are clearly labelled with your child's name on them
- Please bring a water bottle clearly labelled with your child's name.
