Welcome back to the start of a new term. I hope everyone had a lovely break and spent some time relaxing and catching up with family and friends. The cold weather has certainly arrived, so we have now changed our split systems across the school to heating!
It was a busy start back to school, particularly for our Year 6 students who attend their second Gala Day on Tuesday 16th April (the students first day back!). It has been pleasing to see all students are well and truly settled into the school routine again and ready for a big term of learning and events.
We are very excited to welcome two new teachers to our Year 6 teaching team this term. Please welcome Isaac Willett who will be teaching 6E for the remainder of the year, and Kristine Chen who has replaced Georgia Perkins teaching 6A. Find out a little bit more about Isaac and Kristine later in this newsletter.
Teaching staff and Integration Aides came together last Monday 15th April, on our Curriculum Day, to participate in professional learning focused on behaviour management, classroom management and teaching and colleague support. Teachers enjoyed the presentation by Dr Bill Rogers, taking away some practical ideas to instil rights and responsibilities in all classrooms.
The work staff have engaged in with Dr Bill Rogers aligns with and supports our School Wide Positive Behaviour Expectations and our Whole School Response to Behaviour Procedure which was shared on Compass last week.
In addition to the above professional learning opportunity, teachers also had time to work in their Professional Learning Teams, planning the teaching and learning programs for the term.
Teachers are currently in the process of updating the termly overviews on our website. Please take a moment over the next couple of weeks to review what your child/children will be learning about throughout Term 2 in their classrooms and specialist subjects.
Our website is updated on a regular basis, so we do encourage families to visit this site to find out more information about NMPS.
To commemorate the National Day of Remembrance we held a whole school assembly conducted by our student leaders on Wednesday 24th April at our Molesworth Street Campus. Our student leaders also attended Melbourne Legacy’s 92nd ANZAC Commemoration for Students last Friday 19th April. The student leaders were invited to lay a floral tribute on behalf of North Melbourne Primary School during the ceremony. Please find the students’ recount in this newsletter addition.
A reminder to families that there is no school tomorrow, Thursday 25th April, as ANZAC Day is a public holiday.
