Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families, welcome back to Term Two. We are looking forward to another creative terms of Performing Arts making at TRPS.

We are very excited to welcome Linda Venema to our Performing Arts team! Miss V will be working in both the Visual and Performing Arts rooms this term, while Mrs Andrew takes time off for maternity leave. We wish Mrs Andrew all the best for her exciting new chapter!

Prep students have begun the term by refreshing their learning from term one. Students have started the term by revising the three key learning areas in Performing Arts - Dance, Music and Drama. Beginning next week, our preps will start work towards their semester assessments, where they will have the chance to share how much they have learned in their first semester of Performing Arts at Primary School.

This term all grade 1s to 6s will be learning Drama.

Grade 1 and 2 students have begun their drama unit with an introduction to what drama is. Drama is telling stories through performance. Students brainstormed and discussed the kinds of drama they have seen or they know about. We then looked at how stories work, and the things you need to make a good drama story; plot, setting and character. Students were then able to use this knowledge to have a go of making their own plays, performing classic fairy stories for their classmates.

Grade 3 and 4 students began their drama unit by focussing on one element of drama - Character. Students looked at the way that actors can develop interesting characters by creating detailed character profiles. They then practiced how to use acting skills to portray their invented characters. Students improvised scenes and interactions between characters.

Grade 5 and 6 students Began by looking at the element of story. Students used improvisation techniques to build story ideas into group scenes. They practiced improvisation skills such as making and accepting story ideas, and using acting skills to perform the ideas. Students had the chance to practice small and large group improvised scenes, which is a great way for students to develop their group work and collaboration skills.

See you in the Performing Arts room
