Year 12 Geography Fieldwork Excursion to Yookamurra
Late last term, our Year 12 Geographers ventured to Yookamurra Wildlife Sanctuary, near Sedan, to learn about the Mallee ecosystem, and practice and learn different fieldwork techniques. Students were involved in three activities: an ecosystem walk, seeing firsthand the impact of bettongs, bilbies and numbats on engineering their ecosystem, and a scat (animal poo!) collection task. All activities were designed to assist in understanding the unique mallee ecosystem and the animals that inhabit it.
“This experience motivated me to continue my studies in this field and it emphasized the importance of conservation and how all parts of an ecosystem are interconnected.”
Heidi Paton
“I learnt that the lignotuber of the Mallee can survive hundreds of years and can regenerate its branches. This means that the Mallee is a very old ecosystem.” Kevin Ha
“We learnt there is still a lot to do to protect our native ecosystems, and there are lots of opportunities to protect our native species.” Ethan Jusup
“The crew at Yookamurra provided us with not only an engaging learning experience but also an opportunity for our class to work closely and collaboratively. Getting to explore such a diverse environment assisted in our learning and we are very grateful for the experience.” Crystal Manning

SACSA Athletics Carnival
In the opening week of the term, we proudly sent 40 students to represent our College at the SACSA Athletics Carnival. Our collective efforts saw us secure 7th place overall.
The outstanding individual performances of our students was a highlight of the event. Four students emerged victorious claiming gold as they finished first in their respective events, while three secured second and nine attained third. The day served as a vibrant showcase of our students' talents and determination. It was great to see everyone push their boundaries and compete with enthusiasm.
Their achievements not only reflect their individual skills but also exemplify the unity and spirit of our school community.

Year 12 Material Product Excursion
Our Year 12 Material Product class visited Otto Timber this week. The owner, Nathan Otto, spoke to students about a large variety of timber, each with different characteristics, aesthetics, and rarity. The students toured the retail shop and workshop, learning about how timber is cut from logs and prepared for use in furniture.
Students learned about the differences between plantation and old-growth forest timber and how they are sustainably sourced. Gaining in-depth knowledge and understanding of timber and asking Nathan specific questions related to their own projects, made this a valuable experience for all students.
We are looking forward to viewing their final projects later this year!

Year 11 Christian Living supports Ingle Farm Breakfast Program
This week marked the first of a series of weeks where, as part of the Year 11 Christian Living Service elective, students are travelling to Ingle Farm Primary School on Monday and Tuesday mornings to support their Breakfast program.
This week has been highly successful with students learning the ropes of making and serving toast and Weet-bix to the students.
It has been an enlightening time for those involved and thoroughly enjoyable. Due to a lack of bread for the Monday session, students were able to supplement supplies by bringing more loaves on Tuesday.
A big thank you to those students who have already supported this important service.
