Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Prep

Our Prep students have been introduced to a new challenge of Hit the Button recently. This is an exciting game that allows students to practice their number facts, particularly addition within 10. It has been wonderful to see the excitement across the level when the game is being played. Well done on trying hard even when faced with a challenge, Preps!

Year 1

Our Year 1 students recently experienced the thrill of being paleontologists for a day during an exciting in-school visit. As part of our English unit, "Blast from the Past," they had the unique opportunity to dig up their own fossils. This hands-on activity allowed the children to explore the world of dinosaurs and ancient creatures, sparking their curiosity and enhancing their understanding of history in a fun and engaging way. The students were thrilled to uncover and learn about the fascinating remnants of the past, making it a memorable educational experience.

Year 2

Our Year 2 students have been working hard to finish their shoebox rainforests in Humanities. They have used their creative flair to make trees, water sources, logs and vines just to name a few of the features in their rainforests. This week, our students added some animals as the finishing touch. Those animals included the Southern Cassowary, saltwater crocodile, Jungle Carpet Python, tree kangaroo and Ulysses Butterfly. Pick up your binoculars to have a look at some examples of the finished product!

Year 3

In both English and Science this term, Year 3 students have been developing their knowledge about animals. We have been learning about the five vertebrate animal groups and why scientists classify animals the way they do. We have also explored how the life cycles of animals are similar and how they are different. Last week, students had an invisit from Reptile Encounters. There was a lot of smiles as students met stick insects, frogs, a crocodile, a red-tailed cockatoo, a lizard and a very adorable mammal. Every student got a chance to hold an animal. Be sure to have a look at the photos below to see these young taxonomists in action!

Year 4

The Year 4 students have been very excited to start writing narratives this week. They have learnt how to plan their narrative and created their own characters. Last week, the students started writing the first part of their story with descriptive words and interesting punctuation. The teachers can't wait to find out what will happen next in all of the exciting stories!

Year 5

The Year 5 students have started a new novel called 'The Girl Who Speaks Bear'. We have been learning about the author's creative way of incorporating lots of figurative language into the text. The students have identified examples of similes, metaphors and personification. They will then be able to use these techniques in their own writing to really make their writing stand out. The Year 5 teachers have been so impressed at the student's engagement with the text.

Year 6

This week, our Year 6 students have been exploring the fascinating world of matter, delving into the properties and changes of solids, liquids, and gases. Through a series of engaging experiments, they've learned how matter can change from one state to another. One of the highlights was discovering the science behind lava lamps, where they observed how oil and water interact, and the process of creating light with glow sticks, understanding the chemical reactions that make them glow. These hands-on activities have made the concepts of matter and its transformations both fun and memorable.
