Challenge book list

The Challenge book list has lots of books to choose from. Most of the books that students read during the Challenge should be taken from the list. It is important that students:

  • Read books appropriate for their year or reading level
  • Check with their teacher or parent/carer if they want to read a book from the list for years 9 and 10 students, if they are not in those year levels (this list includes titles for mature readers).
  • Students can also count books read for the MS Readathon in the Challenge.

Read a certain number of books

During the Challenge, a student will read a certain number of books that are suitable for them. While the number of books can be varied for a student, the general guidance is:

  • Prep to Year 2: Read a total of 30 books, with 20 or more of those books from the Challenge book list

  • Year 3 to Year 9: Read a total of 15 books, with 10 or more of those books from the Challenge book list

Foundation

Foundation students are continuing to practice taking books home to read with parents. Students will have the opportunity to select books on Fridays to take home in their book bags and will be restricted currently to 1 book at a time. These books are returned on Friday so students can select a new book to take home. If families need more time to read then please still bring the book in on Friday to reborrow and extend the due date.

Students in foundation will need their book bag to borrow books to aid in keeping the books safe.

Year 1 and 2

During library this term students will be continuing with borrowing and returning books from the library. We ask parents to aid in returning books back to school on Mondays or Fridays, depending on their class, so that students will be able to borrow new books or reborrow books they may need more time with. Additionally this term students will be allowed to borrow up to 2 books at a time. One for school and one for home.

Year 5 and 6

Students in Years 5 and 6 this term have begun to borrow for educational as well as recreational purposes. Books have a maximum borrow time of 1 month but can be bought in to be reborrowed if more time is needed. It is encouraged to bring books in early though when students are finished with them as there is a limit to how many books they can borrow at a time. Library will be scheduled for Year 5's on Monday and Year 6's will depend on their class.

Year 3 & 4

Library will be on Monday for Year 3 and 4.  Students are encouraged to bring their library bag to return or borrow. Books can be borrowed up till a month but can be returned earlier. If a student does not bring their library bag, they will still be able to borrow. Borrowing will cease in Week 10 of term to allow for book returns to be sorted and shelved.

This term borrowing has increased to 2 books with only one being allowed to go home and the other being kept in their classroom.
