From our Foundation Classrooms

Foundation students have been enjoying the much-loved story Mrs Wishy-Washy as part of their literacy learning. Through shared reading, reading along, and acting out the story, students are developing their oral language skills by retelling events, identifying key vocabulary, naming the main characters, and discussing the problem and solution in the text.

As part of our writing and handwriting learning, students innovated the text by creating their own version titled “Mrs Wishy-Washy washes Foundation”, where students were sent into the tub after playing in the mud! This hands-on experience brought the story to life and supported students to make meaningful connections between oral language, writing, and real-world experiences.

Students loved visiting Ms Wishy-Washy’s farm with Ms Reanna and Mr Andrew, where they used soap and a hose to wash the muddy animals. This engaging experience sparked lots of rich language, excitement, and storytelling.

Throughout the term, students will continue to strengthen their literacy skills by linking oral language, shared texts, and hands-on experiences to support their learning and confidence.
