Kobe Represents Victoria

Year 11 Student, Kobe, Represents Victoria at National Championships

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of Year 11 student, Kobe, who recently represented Victoria at the Australian Basketball Championships held in Ballarat late January.

The national event, known as the Ivor Burge Championships, is named after one of the pioneers who helped bring basketball to Australia. The championships provide an elite competition pathway for players with an intellectual disability, showcasing talent, sportsmanship and dedication from across the country.

Kobe earned his place in the Victorian team after attending a series of tryout sessions where he impressed selectors with his willingness to take on challenges, his ability to listen to feedback, and his commitment to developing his game.

At just 16 years of age, he was the youngest player on the team, competing in a championship that has no age restrictions — meaning he was up against older and more physically developed athletes. Despite this, he played outstanding basketball throughout the tournament.

Victoria went on to deliver a fantastic performance, winning the Gold Medal in the final against South Australia.

Kobe reflected on his experience, saying:

“I really enjoyed myself. It was tough playing against men who were physically bigger, but I am faster.”

He also shared his future aspirations:

“I want to keep working on my game and dream of representing Australia one day. I know I can do it.”

Kobe’s determination, courage and positive mindset are an inspiration to our whole school community. We congratulate him on this outstanding achievement and look forward to following his basketball journey in the years ahead.
