Teaching & Learning

Welcome to 2026!

As we begin 2026, I’d like to warmly welcome all members of our school community to a new year of learning, connection and opportunity. If I had to provide you a theme for 2026, it would be Growth - be that academic, intellectual, personal or professional. In the end, that is what being a learner is? This reflects our shared belief that learning is never static. For our young people, growth means building knowledge, skills and confidence. For our staff, it means continually refining practice, learning from one another and staying curious about how we can do better for the young people in our care.

The core business of any school is the classroom, and as the Teaching & Learning team, this sits firmly at the heart of our work in 2026. We are working tirelessly to strengthen classroom practice across the school, with a clear focus on high-quality curriculum, instruction, consistency, and evidence-informed approaches that support every learner to succeed. We are committed to creating classrooms where students feel challenged, supported and inspired to grow.

Our Teaching & Learning leadership team for 2026 is focused on working with all teachers to ensure our students know what they are learning, why it matters, and how to succeed.

The team this year is:

Kristelle Sherwood - Literacy Learning Specialist

Sharon Rossiter - Numeracy Learning Specialist

Anna Treasure - Curriculum and Assessment Leader

Alex Burgess-Norris - Student Achievement Leader

We also have a fantastic Learning Area Leader team.

I'd like to extend a very warm welcome to our Year 7 students, as well as all students and families.  Our focus for Year 7 is on building strong foundations. Students will be deeply immersed in writing - developing fluency, clarity and confidence in their thinking and expression. A deliberate and, some might say, brave decision has been made to reduce reliance on computers and devices in Year 7. By not requiring a computer, we are prioritising attention, focus and the fundamentals of learning, allowing students to engage more deeply without some of the distractions that technology can bring. This approach supports strong habits early and sets students up for long-term success.

Kind Regards,

Nick Cowan - Assistant Principal (Teaching & Learning)
