OLNA/NAPLAN
OLNA, Term 3, Weeks 8 – 9, 2026
This is a reminder that some Year 10, 11, and 12 students are scheduled to sit the OLNA this term, from Monday, 7 September to Friday, 18 September 2026.
The OLNA provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate the minimum standards of literacy and numeracy required for the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) awards the WACE at the end of Year 12 to students who have successfully met all requirements.
The OLNA consists of three components: Writing, Reading, and Numeracy. The Reading and Numeracy assessments each consist of 45 multiple-choice questions, while the Writing component requires an extended response of up to 600 words. Students are allocated 50 minutes for both the Reading and Numeracy components, and 60 minutes for the Writing component.
Students are advised to review their Compass timetable two weeks in advance of the testing period for the necessary adjustments. Please ensure that your child is aware of their individual test requirements, including dates, times and locations.
All assessments will take place during Period 2, CORE and Period 3. Students sitting assessments in Period 3 will continue into the start of Period 4 and then return to their regular class. Testing will be conducted in Rooms C115 and C116, where attendance will be recorded.
If your child is unwell during the first week of testing, the Reading and Numeracy components may be rescheduled to the second week of the testing window. Please note that the Writing component must be completed within the first two days of the testing window.
Results are expected to be available the week of Monday, 12 October 2026.
2026 NAPLAN Individual Student Reports – Years 7 and 9
The NAPLAN Individual Student Reports (ISRs) for Year 7 and Year 9 students will be uploaded to Compass by the close of the school day on Friday, 24 July, and can then be accessed under the Reports tab. All students should be commended for their dedicated and conscientious approach to the NAPLAN assessments.
NAPLAN ISRs are issued by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) and provide insight into your child’s performance across four key areas: reading, writing, conventions of language, and numeracy. Results are reported at one of four proficiency levels: Exceeding, Strong, Developing, and Needs Additional Support. Each level represents a broad range of student performance. It’s important to remember that individual reports reflect a single day of testing and should not be taken as a complete picture of a student’s overall learning.
Parents and carers of Year 9 students will also have access to their child’s Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) Report, which will indicate whether their child has met the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) literacy and numeracy standard through NAPLAN.
The WACE literacy and numeracy standard prequalification threshold is located within the Strong level. Students may fall within the ‘Strong’ category and even exceed the national average, yet still be required to demonstrate the minimum literacy and numeracy standards necessary for WACE eligibility. These thresholds are based on scores provided by ACARA and correspond to Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework.
The OLNA Report shows a result for each of the three components: Reading, Writing, and Numeracy.

| Your child has not yet met the required standard for this component based on their NAPLAN results and will need to sit the OLNA. |
If your Year 9 child did not meet the minimum standard in the Reading, Writing and/or Numeracy assessments, they will sit the OLNA for that component in Term 4, Weeks 3 – 4, 2026. The OLNA confirms students meet the minimum literacy and numeracy standards required for WACE eligibility. Further information will be sent out shortly.
Once a student meets the required standard in a component, they do not need to sit that component again. Students have six opportunities before the end of Year 12 to complete the OLNA and satisfy the WACE Literacy and Numeracy requirement.
We encourage Year 7 and Year 9 parents and carers to download their child’s NAPLAN ISR, and Year 9 parents and carers to also download their child’s OLNA Report for future reference.
