The year 2024 marked a significant transformation in the delivery of specialist lessons. A dedicated two-hour block was introduced to allow students to deepen their skills in science, computer technology, and design with a focus on sustainability.
Other specialist lessons were extended to a one-hour block. Mrs. Walker guided Foundation to Year 4 students in the Visual Art curriculum, while Mrs. Robertson worked with Year 5 and 6 students, on the Media Arts curriculum. In Media Arts, students in Years 5 and 6 develop skills in planning, creating, and editing media projects using digital tools, while learning to communicate ideas effectively and understand the influence of media in society. Mr. O'Rourke and Mrs. Rietwyk taught Physical Education across the school, keeping students engaged, active, and challenged.
The specialist programs offered numerous highlights throughout the year. Students explored the science of light, investigating absorption, reflection, and refraction. They conducted experiments on playground temperatures, created and erupted model volcanoes, and designed unique musical instruments. Other activities included constructing electromagnets, investigating electrical circuits, growing crystals, crafting puppets, and building wind-powered cars.
Students also delved into topics such as the solar system, weather patterns, and the changes our world has undergone over time. Each of these projects fostered curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning.
The progress made across all specialist areas in 2024 has been remarkable, and we eagerly anticipate witnessing further growth and achievement in 2025.
