With school holidays fast approaching, daily routines change. We all become more relaxed, and there are different locations for your children to play in during the holidays.
This newsletter highlights some road safety messages to consider during your summer holiday to keep everyone safe.
Going on holiday is an exciting time for your family. Traveling to different locations often means new surroundings and traffic conditions. Roads, footpaths, and pedestrian crossings may look different in holiday areas and there can be more pedestrians and traffic in certain locations.
Whether you are going to the beach, the city, or the country, chances are there will be different road conditions for your family. It is important to discuss as a family the differences in the road and traffic environment.
Holiday caravan parks and camping grounds also bring their own set of road safety challenges for your family. When walking or riding bikes and scooters around these grounds, special care must be taken.
Always supervise your children. Do not allow them to play in dangerous locations.
Hold hands with your children when near roads and walking through carparks or shopping centers as these can be busier with frequently reversing and moving vehicles.
Practice
Stop, Look, Listen & Think every time you cross the road
Teach your children about road safety when near the roads - practice these life skills at traffic lights, zebra crossings, and footpaths.
When your child rides a bike or scooter, ensure they always wear a helmet.
Wearing a helmet can reduce head injuries by 74%.
