Year Four - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Parents,

This week was the final week of the school year. As the teachers of the Year Four Community, we would like to say thank you to all families for partnering with us in making 2024 a successful one for the students.

This week the students learned who their teacher and classmates would be for 2025. All of the students should be proud of the way they integrated into these new class groups. We also had a visit from "Drama Toolbox", an incursion where the students learned about sustainability around the world.

In Mathematics, the focus was activity based, as the students worked in teams to crack codes and put their mathematical knowledge to the test. They also completed maps of the playground and created arrays to represent rows of plants in a garden.

In English we finished reading "The Iron Man" and watched the movie "The Iron Giant", and considered the similarities and differences between the two.

For Personal and Social Learning, the students worked in pairs to create a picture book. The book was about a fictional character having a problem that they were unable to solve without assistance from a trusted adult. The students used the skills they had learned during the "Help Seeking" part of the Personal and Social Learning curriculum.

In Religion, the students read scripture and watched video about Joseph and Mary's trip to Bethlehem, the birth of Jesus, and the visit of the Magi. The students also made Nativity Scene models and created a three dimensional decoration with a Nativity theme.

For Auslan, we revisited different units that have been completed by listening and watching the stories that have been signed. We also had conversations with each other using the signs we have learnt.
