Staff News

Our staff returned to school on Tuesday and spent those days collaborating, attending Professional Development sessions, and reconnecting over morning tea!

At St Brigid’s, our theme for 2025 is 'Hope', inspired by Pope Francis' call for us to be Pilgrims of Hope in the 2025 Jubilee Year. A Jubilee is a time for renewal, reflection, and new beginnings. It invites us to embrace hope, step beyond our comfort zones, and look to the future with optimism.

This week, students will take part in activities to explore the theme in a fun and meaningful way, and as a school, we will continue to embrace hope throughout the year in all that we do.

Welcome!

Join us in giving a warm welcome to our new staff members, Louise Hobbs, Holly Ruwoldt, Carly Mitchell and Brock Summerhayes!

Get to know: Carly Mitchell

"Hi there! My name is Carly Mitchell, and I am delighted to be joining St Brigid’s College.

Originally from Horsham, I spent several years living in Geelong, where I began my teaching career at St Ignatius College. Last year, my husband and I returned to pursue a new business venture, which had been my primary focus until recently when I felt a strong calling to return to my true passion - teaching.

My journey into education began during my university years, when I was studying for a Bachelor of Performing Arts. Initially, I never considered teaching as a career, but the influence of my lecturers was profound. I often found myself thinking, "I want to inspire others the way they inspire me," which ultimately led me to pursue a Master of Teaching. It was there that I encountered a remarkable group of individuals who reaffirmed my purpose and deepened my commitment to the teaching profession.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, travelling, spending quality time with friends and family, and embracing new experiences. At some point, I also hope to reconnect with the stage, either as a performer or behind the scenes.

This year, I will be teaching Year 7 English, Year 8/9 Drama, and Year 12 English. Having previously taught in a large school in Geelong, I was drawn to the idea of working in a smaller school where I could build meaningful connections with students, staff and families. This sense of community is one of the key reasons I wanted to join the team at St Brigid's.

I am very excited to collaborate with my colleagues and hopefully help to inspire the students of St B’s. I look forward to a fulfilling year ahead and all that 2025 has in store! - Carly Mitchell"
