The Science Experience - University of Melbourne, Parkville 20 – 22 January 2025

PSC have been successful in having 7 students receiving scholarships to attend the University of Melbourne Science experience during the January holidays.  Year 9 & 10 students Katie Kristofferson, Jessica Bell, Marcus O’Meara-Hayes, Miles Buchanen, Noah Lai, Eren Guclu and Jensen Black will get to experience university life with lectures, laboratory experiments and hands-on experiences run by our top researchers and scientists, all whilst exploring our world-class facilities. Exploring the secrets of the universe with the physics show. Extracting DNA from strawberries and examining the science of inheritance. Studying ancient fossils and minerals in an introduction to Earth Sciences. Discovering how and why our weather systems form. Testing what chemicals go bang and why? Taste testing indigenous foods and exploring ways they can solve the world’s food crisis. Exploring how mathematics plays key roles in our lives but hides right under our noses. Touring the Harry Brooks Allen Museum of Anatomy and Pathology Discovering the intersection of art and science at the Science Gallery.  Thank you to Rotary Mordialloc and the Bentleigh-Cheltenham RSL for sponsoring these students to have this wonderful opportunity.

National Youth Science Forum participants from PSC!

In January 2025, four PSC Year 11 students will be attending the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) in Canberra or Brisbane.  Rotary Clubs of Mordialloc, Dingley and Beaumaris as well as Parkdale Secondary College have all collaborated to sponsor these students to attend this 5 day program which normally costs $2990 to attend.  Congratulations to Amara Ly, Lachie Wadeson, Josie Thornton and Harvey Schlusser on going through an extensive application and selection process to be the successful candidates.

Students will be participating in a live-in immersive program that connects young Australians with their science and technology future.  They will be attending specialist lectures and workshops and visiting a huge range of science and technology facilities.  They will explore university, training and career pathways and get advice from real life STEM professionals and meet like-minded others of their age from all over Australia.

We look forward to hearing about your incredible science experiences in 2025 when you return from interstate.
