On Wednesday 30th October, 23 Enhanced English students in the Challenge program went to the NGV at Federation Square to participate in a creative writing session using artworks as stimulus material. We were supplied with over the shoulder seats that we could sit on while summoning our imaginative ideas. We sat in front of a magnificent old Rolls Royce, a large painting of black and white swirls, a colourful painting of the Sydney Harbour Bridge [which appeared incomplete] and a painting of a young soldier back from World War 1 [amongst others]. We were carefully instructed to compose poems based on a solid structure; this was excellent as our work then sounded quite brilliant. Metaphors were the hardest to think of, but there were some unique and meaningful efforts made by our talented cohort. The hour flew by and before we knew it, we were back on the bus heads filled with culture and ideas. It was an excellent outing and we could have stayed for much longer.
Thanks to Ms Leslie for organising and to Ms Della Fortuna for coming with us.
