School Wide Positive Behaviour Support and Respective Relationships News

WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK!

We Want to Hear from You!

As part of our recent update to unhide Minor and Major behaviours in our system, we're inviting families to share their thoughts and feedback.

Your input is incredibly valuable as we continue to improve how we communicate and work together to support our students. The survey will only take a few minutes and will be available for one week.

We’d love to hear your perspective on how behaviours are shared and how we can strengthen our communication with families.

TOILET BLITZ

There has been some recent misbehaviour in the toilets that we would like to bring to your attention.  These include putting food down the toilets, shoving toilet paper down and playing in the toilet areas.  These behaviours will be discussed in the "Setting the Climate" activities at the beginning of Term 3. If families could also discuss this with their students, we would be most appreciative.

REFLECTION ROOM and RESTORATIVE PRACTICE

The Reflection Room (formerly Time Owed) at Cranbourne South Primary School provides a structured space for students to process and learn from both minor and major behavioral incidents. It's not a punishment, but rather an opportunity for students to reflect on their actions, understand the impact of their behavior, and develop strategies for making better choices in the future. Perpetrators, victims and witnesses are often called to the Reflection room to participate in structured discussions led by an adult.

Reflection Rooms and in the school yard Behavior:

  • Minor Behaviors: These are incidents that occur in the yard  such as taking others property or non compliance.
  • Major Behaviors: These are more serious incidents like physical or verbal aggression, unsafe actions, or consistent disruption. These often require office support and involvement.
  • Reflection Room Purpose:The reflection room is designed to help students understand the consequences of their actions and develop strategies for making better choices in the future.

Reflection Room Process: (including the Restorative Practice procedure)

  • Student-Led: Students are given the opportunity to explain their side of the story and reflect on their behavior through a Restorative process
  • Focus on Learning: The goal is not punishment but rather to help students learn from their actions and improve their behavior.
  • Support and Guidance: Designated staff guide the reflection process, helping students identify triggers, understand the impact of their behavior, and develop strategies for the future.

Key Principles:

  • Accountability: Students are held accountable for their actions.
  • Empathy: Students are encouraged to consider the impact of their behavior on others.
  • Positive Behavior Support: The reflection room is part of a larger system that promotes positive behavior through various strategies, including positive reinforcement, teaching alternative behaviors, and modifying the environment.
  • Consistency: Clear expectations, routines, and consequences are established to promote a positive learning environment.

Benefits:

  • Improved Behavior: By understanding the consequences of their actions and developing strategies for change, students can improve their behavior.
  • Increased Self-Awareness: Reflection helps students become more aware of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
  • Stronger Relationships: Understanding the impact of their behavior can help students build stronger relationships with peers and teachers.

Future Success: Reflection can help students learn to manage challenging situations and make better choices in the future.
