Gymnastics in P.E
The whole school has spent the last month completing Gymnastics skills in P.E lessons.
The Junior School have enjoyed the challenge of completing a Superman balance, Pencil jumps and egg rolls. The excitement and sheer delight when they perform something for the first time has been so fun to watch.
The Middle School completed a variety of balance, body shape, jumps and roll stations in which they had to assess each other and provide feedback. The students are to be commended on the safety they demonstrated completing the skills and the clear feedback they provided their partner using the peer assessment lesson
Junior and Middle School students have completed a reflection task which will be in their Student Portfolios that can be viewed during student led conferences.
The Senior School worked hard in groups to present a group routine that had to display various balances (both individual and partner) jumps and rolls in a variety of sequences. I have been blown away by the enthusiasm of the students.
Senior School students had their performances filmed and they will be able to be viewed via scanning a QR code at student led conferences.
Division Cross Country
Earlier this term Wednesday we had 13 students head off to Pakenham to compete in the Division Cross Country. It was a wild day weather wise but luckily the rain had stopped before our students had to run. Everyone tried their best and should be proud of their results. A big congratulations to Kobe D, Charlie R, Billie B, Maddix H and Elliot F who qualified for the Regional carnival.
Regional Cross Country
On Wednesday 18th June the 5 students who qualified for Regional Cross Country headed down to Hastings Foreshore to complete. It was a chilly day however the rain held off which meant it was perfect running conditions.
All 5 students ran especially well against some of the top runners in the State.
Well done to Billie B, Maddix H, Charlie R, Kobe D and Elliot F for making it to Regionals - a phenomenal achievement!

Foundation
The Foundation students have been practicing our listen skills. Waiting to take turns and giving clear instructions through the play of different games such as match mine and dance detective.
Years 1-4
The Junior and Middle School students have been working on our Stop, opt and Go. When we are faced with a problem we Stop, identify our feelings and what the problem actually is. Then we Think what would help me to solve my problem, do I need to take a break and calm down before deciding. Then I choose a "Cool" strategy, not a weak or aggro one, that will either get me in trouble or not solve my problem. And then I am good to go. To be able to do this we need to be able to read face, body and voice cues and name emotions.
Years 5 and 6
The senior School have spent time discussing respect, for ourselves, others and belongings. We've discussed that because something is different doesn't mean we need to make fun of it, instead we could use it as an opportunity to learn. We've also been talking about impulse control and taking a moment to stop and think before just blurting something out.
NED's Coming
On Friday of Week 1 Term 3, we are having an incursion called NED's Resiliency Ride. This incursion is about showing resilience when faced with a challenge. All students will be attending this 45 minute performance. We have been able to run this performance through a Pay-It-Forward system. After the performance there will be Yoyo's available to purchase through the Compass shop. When we purchase Yoyo's it then allows the program to be run at another school.
SAVE THE DATE!
FIESTA IS COMING OCTOBER 17TH
Get ready for an epic art show and wondrous underwater ocean themed glow room.
Foundation
Students have learnt about positive and negative space through painting around their Elmer the Elephant drawing blocking out the surrounding background and revealing the pattern inside the elephant.
They have also read indigenous dreamtime stories including the story of the Rainbow Serpent. Students painted paper and made snake heads. The week after they cut their paper into strips and made them into a paper chain for the serpent body. Using sticky tape was super exciting and we only needed two bandaids!
Junior School
Year 1 and 2 students have been learning to include cultural aspects into their artworks. They have made Spanish inspired artworks including a paper plate castanets with a radial pattern and a sombrero coloured with bright Spanish colours and wrapped in thread.
After reading an indigenous story about the Rainbow Serpent, students have constructed their own 'serpents' from paper clay. This was a massive hit and students are looking forward to seeing them displayed at the Fiesta.
They have also completed their symmetrical Owl faces and have started to make some ocean creatures in preparation for our glow room at the Fiesta.
Middle School
Year 3 and 4 students have been learning about value by completing their underwater scene with ocean creature silhouettes. They explored how to blend colours and create a 'value' background using one colour and mixing it with white or black.
Students have also incorporated Spanish Culture through observing and analysing the work of spanish born artist Pablo Picasso. Students used a cubist approach to drawing and painting a Spanish Bull head by using bright colours, geometric shapes and straight lines as well as distorted facial features.
Senior School
Senior School students have incorporated Spanish culture into their artworks by painting a pot and building a 3D cardboard cactus.
They have also been learning about texture, both implied and real, and enjoyed the chance to shape wet plaster with various tools into an interesting textured design.
Tacos
Students in Foundation had a great time cooking and eating Tacos in STEM during the specialist team’s Spanish week. Students were able to help make their tacos and then spent the rest of the lesson enjoying their food.
Spheros
The Foundation to Year 2’s have been very excited to learn about our new Sphero robots. They have been learning how to connect them to the iPads and have been doing some driving challenges.
Garden
The Year 3/4 students have been getting out into the garden and preparing garden beds and weeding. They have been busy learning the difference between weeds and the plants that we want in the garden. They have also been able to experience some of the different smells in the garden.
3D Printing
The Year 5/6 students have started to learn about 3D printing. They have been using a program called Tinkercad to design a 3D car that will be used in a competition later in the year.
THANK YOU!
Thank you to the school community for all the donations of glassware for the kitchen. These containers will help to safely store food items for the upcoming cooking lessons for Years 3-6.
