Miss Kim Taggart
Yaama,
I would like to welcome everyone back to the new school year!
For the new families that are joining our school, I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Kim Taggart and I have been working at St Joseph's as the Aboriginal Education Assistant for almost 6 years! My role involves in class support for both First Nations and non-Indigenous students, as well as, conducting cultural lessons for the First Nations students.
This allows the First Nations students to learn more about themselves and their culture. Lessons are designed around the student's Cultural Learning Plans that are completed with their parents and teachers. A date is yet to be finalised for our afternoon gathering to complete this, but please watch this space!
I look forward to getting back into it this year and I am excited to see what this year has to bring.
The Council of NSW Catholic Schools Parents recently produced a video for distribution to dioceses and schools about Sorry Business. The video was created by members of our CCSP Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee. In the video, parent representatives and executive officers in schools talk about what Sorry Business means to them, and how schools can help families who are impacted by Sorry Business.
In the spirit of ongoing reconciliation, the aim of the video is to give school staff and other parents personal insights into how Sorry Business affects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, with the hope that it will encourage all school communities to work together to support Aboriginal students and their families during these times.
Yaluu
