This Term we are inviting parents and carers to participate in the NSW Public Schools Parent Survey. The survey gives you the opportunity to share your experience at our school, including communication, inclusion, wellbeing and how your child’s learning is supported. Hearing directly from our parents and carers will help us understand what’s working well and where improvements can be made. Participation in the survey is optional, your responses are anonymous, and it takes around 10 to 15 minutes to complete. You can access the survey at https://surveyme.education.nsw.gov.au/sc/yVMnz8NZI9d2u1h2YMo6Pw2

Coonamble - student experiences

Adele C

My experience at Coonamble.

It was an extremely amazing time at Coonamble. We had to sleep in tents, with friends, making it so fun camping. The teachers were very kind and helpful, teaching us lots of important knowledge about how landscapes were formed and how aboriginals built their shelter. We even built one too! The guides made us learn while having fun. We also made johnny bread which is like damper. First we had to knead the dough covered with flour, press it flat, then you put your bread on the grill above the campfire. Overall it was a great experience being with friends, exploring nature and learning wonderful things. Hopefully I can go back and enjoy more fun!

My experience at Coonamble was unlike any other. The activities were great. I loved how we got to hike and see the mountains, trees and animals. I’ve learnt a lot about aboriginal culture on my journey to Coonamble. We went to a lookout with an amazing view — watching the sunset was a one in a lifetime experience. At night, the view was even more spectacular, the starry night sky, the moon illuminating the ground and the therapeutic feeling looking up at the sky, watching the shooting stars outside. At Coonamble public school, we made great friends and might even see them in term 3! The sand art was very creative and I had a lot of fun listening to aboriginal dream time stories. Overall, it was one of the best experiences of my life.

My experience at Coonamble was really good because I got to meet new students from Coonamble and learn their cultures. I also saw a lot of aboriginal dancing and dreamtime stories which were quite interesting. I got to see some cool aboriginal hunting weapons like spears, woomeras and boomerangs at Coonamble Public school.

At the campsite, I liked watching the millions of stars in the night and roasting marshmallows around the fire. Bushwalking was also fun because I saw many unique things like holes which wild pigs and echidnas dig in. The experience was very fun.

My experience at Coonamble was exploring the outback and seeing the other side of Australia in a different perspective, gazing at the night sky, thousands of stars bright and gleaming. You couldn’t see that kind of view in the city where there are too many lights. It was my first time camping in tents and setting up my tent. They had an amazing information centre where they kept all the animal and plant facts and information.

On the third day we went to Coonamble Public School. There were only around 240 people at their school. That's approximately our school’s year six together. Two Elders came down and performed some aboriginal dance and told us some dreamtime stories. Their school had fish farms and chicken coops, the eggs hatched on the day we went and we saw adorable chicks that just hatched. I'm very lucky to go to the Coonamble excursion and I’ve learnt a lot about aboriginal culture and taking a look at the astonishing view outside Sydney .

My experience at Coonamble was very different from other excursions. I had never experienced sleeping in tents with school friends, and also put up the tent. The food was good, and the activities were fun and interesting. The bushwalking was amazing, seeing emus and kangaroos in the wild. I loved seeing tropical birds we never see in Chatswood. Walking and teachers explaining what we didn’t know was amazing, and making a little shelter out of sticks, bark and leaves taught me a lot of things such as bark stops most of the wind and rain getting in, and clay fills the holes so it doesn’t leak. Strong, sturdy, long branches make up the base of the tipi, and shorter sticks lean on the bigger ones. Star gazing was beautiful, as if I was looking at the milky way itself. The games were fun, and the marshmallows were delicious. It was so fun!

Overall, the experience was extraordinary.

Thank you teachers for organizing that!!!

My trip to Coonamble was very enjoyable - with a variety of my friends on the exhilarating journey. I made friends along the way and met a nice bus driver who was amenable to come along the journey with us. For me, Coonamble public school felt very welcoming with a very nice community. I met friends like Jamain and Yorel who were my guides during my trip to Coonamble with very nice teachers who provided us with delicious food that I wish I could eat again. Ultimately, Coonable was one of the best trips I've ever been on. It’s a small town, but one of my favourites.

Hello Mandarin

Last Thursday, 21 May, 44 students from our school participated in the first round of the Hello Mandarin Competition held at school. This was the first time our school hosted the preliminary round of this event, making it a very exciting opportunity for both students and staff. We are proud to announce that 18 students have successfully progressed to the finals of the competition. Throughout the event, students confidently demonstrated their Chinese language skills and stage performance abilities. We look forward to seeing our finalists shine in the next round and wish them the very best for the competition finals.

Canteen Orders

Please ensure you select your child’s correct class when placing food orders through School24. We have noticed some orders are being submitted under the wrong class, which can lead to delays or missing recess and lunch orders. To help the canteen deliver your child’s food on time and to the right class and student, please double-check and update their class details before finalising your order.
