Education Week Open Morning: Learning in Action

One of the highlights of Education Week was welcoming families into our classrooms for our Open Morning. It was a wonderful opportunity for parents and carers to experience learning through the eyes of an LPS student and gain a deeper understanding of the learning, routines and relationships that make our school such a great place.

Across the school, families observed a range of learning experiences in action. Some joined students during Word Work, Literature Units, Fluency Partners and Maths Masters practise, while others watched explicit teaching, independent practice and classroom discussions unfold. No matter which classroom they visited, families were able to see the calm, purposeful and supportive learning environments that our staff work hard to create every day.

Opening our classrooms requires both staff and students to show a degree of vulnerability. Teachers invite others into their professional practice, while students share their learning, thinking and classroom routines. We are incredibly proud of the way our students and staff embraced the morning, demonstrating confidence, respect and a genuine love of learning.

One of the joys of the morning was seeing students step into the role of teacher. Many proudly guided family members through learning activities, explaining routines and supporting them to participate. A particular highlight was hearing parents navigate the sounds and routines of code reading during Word Work, often discovering just how much knowledge and skill their children have developed.

The feedback from families was overwhelmingly positive. Parents spoke about how valuable it was to see learning firsthand, observe the positive classroom culture and gain a greater appreciation of the expertise, patience and care demonstrated by our teachers and education support staff each day. Many commented on the high levels of student engagement and the confidence students displayed while explaining their learning.

Thank you to all of our families who joined us and to our staff and students for making the morning such a success. Opportunities like this strengthen the partnership between home and school and remind us that learning is at its best when it is shared. Together, we continue to build a community where every child can thrive, supported by the collective efforts of students, families and staff.
