From the Principal

Dear Families,

I hope everyone has an outstanding week. I wanted to thank those parents/families who came along to either our Open Day or the Winter Round Robin last Friday. I particularly wanted to thank those of you who forwarded some very positive feedback. You can read more about this on the Learning and Teaching page.

Taking Learning Outdoors

This term, a group of our Grade 5 and 6 students have been participating in our new Hiking Program. Introduced as an alternative to interschool sport, the program provides students with another way to be active, challenge themselves and connect with others.

Over the past few weeks, students have built their fitness and confidence through a series of hikes, demonstrating resilience, perseverance and teamwork along the way. They have supported one another through challenges, enjoyed time in nature and experienced the satisfaction that comes from achieving a goal.

The Hiking Program has been a wonderful example of our values in action, particularly Aspire, Teamwork and Community. We are incredibly proud of the students who embraced the opportunity and challenged themselves to try something new.

We hope this experience has inspired our students to continue exploring the outdoors beyond school and perhaps discover a lifelong hobby that supports both their physical and mental wellbeing.

School Review- Parent Forum

As you may be aware, Lysterfield Primary School will be undertaking our School Review this term. School reviews occur every four years and provide an opportunity to reflect on our achievements, identify areas for improvement, and help shape the priorities that will guide our next Strategic Plan.

An important part of the review process is hearing directly from members of our school community. As part of the review, a parent forum will be held where families will have the opportunity to share their experiences, perspectives, and ideas about our school.

The review panel is interested in hearing from a broad range of parents and carers. You do not need any special knowledge or experience to participate. We are simply looking for families who are willing to share their honest thoughts about what our school does well and where we can continue to improve.

The parent forum will be held at LPS from 2:20 pm on Monday, 15 June and will be facilitated by Justin Butler, Knox Network Senior Education Improvement Leader (SEIL). Feedback gathered during the session will inform the development of our next Strategic Plan and the school's future directions.

Participation in the forum is entirely voluntary, and all viewpoints are welcome. We are interested in hearing from families with a range of experiences and perspectives.

If you are interested in participating, please email the school at lysterfield.ps@education.vic.gov.au by 3:30 pm on Wednesday, 10 June.

If more parents express interest than there are available places, we will work to ensure a balance of year levels and family experiences are represented.

Thank you for considering this opportunity. Parent feedback plays a valuable role in helping us continue to provide the best possible education and experience for our students and families.

Personal Accident Insurance for students

The Department of Education (DE), which includes Lysterfield Primary School (LPS), does not have personal accident insurance for students.

If a student is injured at school or while participating in a school activity (including off-site) and requires medical treatment, parents/carers are responsible for all their child’s medical expenses. This includes transport costs such as ambulance costs (which may include an air ambulance if considered necessary).

Parents/carers may not be called if an ambulance is required, until after an ambulance is called, depending on the situation.  LPS staff, supported by the principal, will use their judgment as to what action to take in cases of a student’s accident or sudden illness.

Personal Property Insurance for staff and/or students

DE which includes our school, does not have personal property insurance for staff and/or students.

Items of personal property that are lost, stolen or damaged at school or during school excursions are not the responsibility of Lysterfield Primary School or DE. Staff and students are reminded not to bring items of value to school or on school excursions.

LPS encourages parents/carers to consider obtaining their own accident insurance for students and property of value that may be brought to school.

Have a fantastic weekend.
