Secondary

Dear Families
Years 11 and 12 students have now completed their exams and should be proud of their approach towards what can be a challenging time in their learning journey. It has been fantastic to hear from many students that they felt prepared because of the support from their teachers, good time management and effective study strategies. Students who have engaged in work placements over the past two weeks have reported enjoying the opportunity to gain more experience and confidence in the workplace. Year 10 students embark on their exams next week, and we wish them every success as they strive towards their personal best.
Yesterday, we welcomed David Castelanelli from Levitate Learning, who worked with the Year 12 cohort on mindfulness and managing stress, which was a timely workshop following their recent exams. Students self-reflected on practices they had implemented to support themselves through their exams and reviewed additional actions they can begin to implement into their approach as they prepare for the next rounds of assessments and exams later in the year.
Years 7 to 9 Interhouse Netball Grand Finals were played on Wednesday lunchtime, attracting plenty of passionate spectators cheering their peers on. Congratulations to all players, especially Year 7 Loreto, Year 8 Koolyangarra and Year 9 Campion, who were victorious for each year group. Thank you to House Coordinators for their planning and oversight of this great initiative to strengthen House spirit, and for our student umpires for officiating each game. We look forward to the Years 10 to 12 competition next term.
All the best to our musicians as they embark on their annual Music Camp today. Thank you to James Kros, Head of Music, all staff attending and our wonderful FOMAD volunteers for their support of students over the weekend.

Year 9 Outdoor Education Camp
Last Thursday and Friday, our Year 9 Outdoor Education students took part in a fantastic camp in Collie, enjoying two action-packed days of adventure, challenge and personal growth.
Students participated in a range of activities throughout the new camp program including mountain biking, hiking, fishing and teambuilding challenges. A major focus of the camp was developing camp craft skills, with students showing enthusiasm and maturity throughout. Activities challenged students physically and mentally while helping them build communication, leadership and problem-solving skills in a fun and supportive environment.
A sincere thank you goes to all staff involved in attending the camp. Your time, energy and commitment are appreciated.
The camp was an enjoyable and rewarding experience that highlighted the outstanding qualities of our Year 9 students.

Uniform Shop Update: Online Purchases Launching Term 3
We are pleased to announce that, from Term 3, John XXIII College will be launching an online Uniform Shop as an addition to our on-campus store.
This online store is designed to offer a more streamlined and user-friendly experience, making it easier than ever to manage your orders from the convenience of your phone or computer, while still providing the option to visit us in-store.
To support this transition, the Uniform Shop will close at the end of business on Friday 26 June, to allow for a full stocktake and staff training in preparation for the launch of the new online store and point-of-sale system. The shop will reopen on Wednesday 22 July.
Keep an eye on your inbox for further information, including how to access your account and start using the new system, which will be shared prior to the start of Term 3.
We look forward to this exciting new initiative and to continuing to serve our community both online and in-store.
Boys: Building Strong Young Men From the Inside Out - Webinar
Wednesday 17 June, 7pm AEST
You are invited to register to hear Dr Justin Coulson’s latest research on how best to support your sons in the modern world. As a Happy Families school John XXIII can attend this online event for free.
He’s disappearing. Behind the closed door, lost in screens, making choices that keep you up at night. He’s navigating a world designed to confuse him – algorithms designed to addict him – a world parents don’t understand and can’t break into. The headlines scream crisis. They warn us that boys are in deep trouble… and it’s getting worse.
But it doesn’t have to be like this.
Dr Justin Coulson has a different story to tell. In Boys, Coulson reveals what decades of research suggests: when boys get what they actually need, they thrive. Not through force or fixing, but through connection, meaningful challenge, and someone who refuses to give up on them.
This presentation hands you the ‘Playbook’. It cuts through the noise with practical, research-backed strategies for the battles you’re fighting right now.
Equality, Reconciliation and Social Cohesion: the inspiration of Sir William Deane - Edited by Fr Frank Brennan SJ

At a moment when our nation is engaged in profound soul-searching about equality, reconciliation and social cohesion, this book offers timely and essential insights. Sir William Deane was an outstanding jurist and a compassionate leader who championed a fair go for all Australians, especially the poor and vulnerable.
Sir William and Lady Helen Deane became the nation’s first couple of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
