ICAS Testing

The ICAS assessments are scheduled for August this year. Please note that the tests will be administered before school, starting at 7:50 am. If you would like your child to participate, it will be the parents' responsibility to ensure that your child is dropped off for testing at this time.

Please note that parents will fund the ICAS assessments.

If you would like your child (Years 3-6) to participate in ICAS Testing at OLSS, please ensure you complete the online payment and registration by Monday 20th July.  Failure to pay by this date will result in your child missing out on all the nominated assessments.

If you have any questions, please contact Natalie Burland  via the school office.

Newman News- Maths Olympiad in Action!

For the past semester, a dedicated group of high-potential Year 5 and 6 mathematicians have been working with Mrs Bowmaker each Tuesday to prepare for the Maths Olympiad, a challenging problem-solving competition designed to extend and inspire young thinkers.

Each week, students engage in rich, open-ended mathematical tasks that require more than just quick recall. They are developing advanced skills in logical reasoning, pattern recognition, strategy building and creative problem-solving. These sessions offer our NEWMAN learners the chance to be stretched in a supportive environment, working alongside like-minded peers.

We’re excited to share that the group has already completed their first Olympiad challenge! These 30 minute tests included five multi-step word problems that demand persistence and deep thinking. We are incredibly proud of the students' efforts and the strategies they used to tackle these tricky tasks without giving up! A big shout out to the following students who answered 5 out of the 5 questions correctly! Well done Lucas W, Daniel D, Sam A, Sebastian L, Oscar G, Ethan L, Annaliese F and Roham R.

We look forward to seeing how our students grow across the remaining Olympiad rounds this year. Well done!
