Year 3 and Year 4
We are delighted to welcome Amrita, our student teacher working with 4B. Currently in her second year of university, she is well on her way to becoming an outstanding educator and there is no better mentor than Miss Bulte!

Amrita has already taken on a number of lessons in 4B, bringing enthusiasm, fresh ideas, and strong knowledge to the classroom. Within just a few days, she confidently stepped into teaching Spelling Mastery and leading Reviews, demonstrating both initiative and capability. Thank you for being part of 4B Amrita, we are lucky to have you for three weeks.

Typing Club
Year 4 students have been thoroughly enjoying using Typing Club, a platform that supports the development of touch typing skills. It has been fantastic to see a noticeable improvement in students’ accuracy, speed, and confidence as they continue to practise. Go 4B!

Run Club
It has been wonderful to see so many Year 3 and 4 students joining Run Club on Fridays, showing enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to challenge themselves.

STEM
This week in STEM & Sustainability the year 3/4s started learning about the 5 food groups and the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating - commonly known as the ‘plate model’. We will build on this in future lessons by learning about how these foods help our bodies to grow, recover, and stay healthy, using chemistry, biology, and physiology!

English
Our Year 3 students have been learning about the Australian Aboriginal Flag, including who designed it and how each part of the flag symbolises Aboriginal identity and culture. Using this knowledge, students are now writing an information piece about the flag, applying their understanding of conjunctions to create powerful and well structured sentences.
They have also explored the Free the Flag movement and discussed why the Gurindji people went on strike, helping them build a deeper understanding of Aboriginal history, rights and representation. All of this background knowledge is helping our young learners write an amazing information piece in English.

Maths
In Maths, our Year 3 students have been focusing on choosing the appropriate units of measurement when recording length. They have been learning when to use millimetres, centimetres, metres and kilometres, and exploring how each unit is used for different types of measurements. Students have been practising reading scales, comparing lengths, and deciding which unit makes the most sense for the object or distance they are measuring.
R.E
In Religion, we have been learning about the story of Zacchaeus and exploring what his story teaches us about change, forgiveness and kindness. As part of this learning, students completed a Create His Tree, where they thought about the branches, bark and leaves of Zacchaeus’ tree and what each part could symbolise in the story. This activity helped students visualise the moment Zacchaeus climbed the tree and reflect on why this event is important in Jesus’ teachings.
Skills Block
At Sacred Heart, each lesson begins with a dedicated Skills Block, where students focus on developing specific skills in isolation before applying them in different contexts. This approach is evident across our Fluency sessions, Handwriting lessons, and the beginning of each Mathematics lesson.
In 4B, we have had an incredible week during our Skills Block, with students actively developing a wide range of new skills. Smooth transitions, high levels of engagement, and strong time management have contributed to a highly productive and positive learning environment. Keep being great learners 4B, we are very proud of you!

English
In Writing, students have begun an information piece about Captain James Cook and his voyage to Australia. They have been investigating the purpose of Cook’s journey, what he did while he was in Australia, and the impact his arrival had on Aboriginal people. This learning is helping students build a deeper understanding of Australia’s history and how different perspectives shape the stories we tell.

Maths
Our Grade 4 students have been building their confidence in multiplicative thinking, an essential foundational skill that supports many other areas of Maths. This fortnight, students have been exploring multiplication patterns, solving worded problems, and learning how to multiply a two‑digit number by a one‑digit number using strategies such as doubling and halving.

Topic
In Topic, we have continued exploring Australia and First Nations peoples, deepening our understanding of early contact and colonisation. Students have been learning about the different groups who travelled on the First Fleet, why they came, and the roles they played.
They have also examined the timeline of the First Fleet, the conditions on board, and the journey to Australia, including the key places the ships stopped along the way.
Kinder Visits
Our Year 4 students had an amazing time during their first Nagle Kinder visit on Friday! They were absolute superstars and such positive role models for their four year old buddies. The children had a blast reading stories together, racing around the playground, and getting creative in the sandpit.
We are so lucky to have such a strong school community and to spend time building these connections across year levels, it truly brings so much joy to everyone involved. Thank you to Mrs Ferrari and Mrs Tench who have made this possible!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day
In preparation for the 4th of June, we have been busily working on a special craft for our Grandparents and Special Friends Day.
We are also excited to begin rehearsing a special performance in the coming days, ensuring we are well prepared to make the occasion memorable.

Fun in the Art Room
In Art, we are very fortunate to have Ms Gray, who brings students’ learning to life in a fun and engaging way. This week, 4B began creating boats as part of their learning about the First Fleet, exploring it from a range of different perspectives. It was wonderful to see a simple tissue box transformed into a creative piece of art. Thank you, Mrs Gray, for designing such engaging lessons and for always bringing our learning to life. We cannot wait to see the final product!

Please keep an eye on nForma for further details as the events draw closer.
