School Council Update
Last night School Council met for the September meeting.
Firstly, on behalf of School Council I would like to thank Rachel for her leadership, care, consideration and dedication to our school, students, staff and the community. She has been a part of the CNPS community for over 8 years and should be proud of what the school has achieved. We will miss you Rachel, and wish you all the best on your new role.
A number of policies were discussed and approved by council. The updated policies will be on the school website in due course and included
- Student Wellbeing & Engagement Policy
- Child Safety Code of Conduct, and
- Child Safety Policy.
Council also discussed the School Council Self Assessment, which is a yearly requirement assesses knowledge and operating rhythms as it relates to governance, roles and responsibilities and School planning and approvals. Council feels that we are operating well, and have committed to participate in Child Safety in person training at the start of 2025.
I strongly encourage anyone who has not yet completed the Parents and Carers survey to do so, the feedback received is an important input into the overall school planning activity. You can find the link to the survey on Compass.
The Capital Works program is progressing, and the architects and project managers are meeting with school staff and leadership members on detailed design to ensure that we have the feedback of those that will be using our new spaces. Once we have final approved designs I look forward to sharing these with the broader school community. Construction is currently slated to commence after the Fete in 2025.
Finally Council discussed a number of matters related to the School Principal selection. As I commit to keeping our school community informed of the process as appropriate, there are two appointments that will be made.
- An interim principal will be appointed for Term 4. This is run by the regional leadership of the school and the Dept of Education. School Council has no role to play here. The regional leader is aiming that this individual is in place in the first couple of weeks of Term 4 at the latest.
- Concurrently an advertising and selection process will be run for the permanent CNPS Principal. As part of this, there will be representation on the Selection Panel from our parent and carer community (through School Council President and one other Council member), a school staff member and two Department members. The process will commence in Term 4, with the aim to have an outcome communicated by the end of the year.
I have committed to appropriately engaging our school staff team to ensure that we have their input into the ‘Community Selection Criteria’ that Council will put forward as part of the selection process. I look forward to working with the school team, council and the Department on this critical appointment for our school.
If anyone has any questions on the process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to either myself or any members of the School Council.
Enjoy the last few weeks of term and we hope you have a safe and restful school holiday break.
