Congratulations to Year 6 students Brodie Corsini (trumpet), Will Minahan (percussion), Lincoln Bartlett (alto saxophone) and Finn Tuohy (alto saxophone), who attended the Gap Region Instrumental Primary Performers School (GRIPPS) from Sunday, 17 August to Thursday, 22 August.
Approximately 200 children audition each year for a maximum of 150 positions. Students from 11 State and Private Primary Schools in The Gap area are invited to participate. The music camp was conducted at The Gap State High School over 4½ days. Students were selected to participate in two music ensembles – one of which was directed by MCA’s Dr Andrew Butt – as well as a combined choir culminating in a concert at The Gap State High School on Thursday, 22 August.
GRIPPS is a joint Rotary Club and Gap Schools initiative that provided our Marist boys with an opportunity to further develop their musical skills and make friendships with students from other schools in the local area. It is coordinated by Principals and Instrumental Teachers and Instructors of The Gap Cluster. Thank you to all of our Marist Instrumental Music Teachers for preparing the boys for auditions, including Janelle Lee Long for coordinating the auditions for our boys and assisting the GRIPPS committee in the preparation and running of the music camp and concert.
Please note that the 2025 Music Camp will be held from Friday 24 January through to Sunday 26 January. Members of the College’s Chamber Choir, Performance Choir, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber and Senior String Orchestras, Wind Orchestra 1, Guitar Orchestra 1 and Big Band 1 will all be involved in a weekend of intensive ensemble rehearsals to hone their skills for the numerous upcoming performances throughout the year.
