Year 7: Habitats and Interactions
Our Year 7 students have been delving into the fascinating world of habitats and adaptations. They’ve explored how animals and plants are perfectly suited to their environments and learned about the intricate relationships between species through food chains and food webs. These young scientists have also considered the impact of industry on ecosystems, examining real-world examples of how human activities can both positively and negatively influence nature.
Year 8: Energy
Energy has been the focus for our Year 8 students, who have been investigating the different forms of energy, how it is transferred, and transformed. From understanding energy efficiency in everyday appliances to exploring the properties of sound and light energy, students have had the opportunity to apply these concepts in hands-on experiments. Their growing awareness of energy’s role in our lives fosters a deeper appreciation for sustainable living.
Year 9: Disease
Year 9 students have embarked on a journey through the human body’s immune system, learning about how we defend ourselves against diseases. They have studied the three lines of defence. Students have also explored the differences between infectious diseases caused by pathogens and genetic diseases passed through generations, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of how health and disease shape our lives.
Year 10: Forensic Science
In Year 10, our budding forensic scientists have been solving mysteries by applying science to crime scene investigations. They’ve honed their skills in fingerprinting, blood spatter analysis, fibre analysis, DNA analysis, and biometrics. Students also examined the methods used to detect forgeries, putting together all their learning in practical and analytical tasks. This unit has allowed students to develop their investigative thinking while discovering how science plays a crucial role in justice and security.
