Backflips Against Bullying
In a powerful display of athleticism and advocacy, the "Backflips Against Bullying" team took to the floor at Elderslie High School, leaving students both entertained and inspired. The team, known for their high-energy performances, combined acrobatics with an important message about the impact of bullying and the strength it takes to stand up against it.
As the team executed backflips, somersaults, and sophisticated stunts, the Year 7 students watched in awe. But the spectacle was more than just a visual display—it was a carefully crafted narrative aimed at empowering our students to take a stand against bullying in all its forms. The performers skilfully made the students aware about the importance of overcoming adversity, emphasising that bullying is not just a harmless rite of passage, but a serious issue that affects the mental and emotional well-being of students.
The performance was part of a broader initiative to raise awareness about bullying; Bullying No Way: National Week of Action Against Bullying where the main message is to raise awareness about the harmful effects of bullying and to promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment.
Our students left the performance buzzing with excitement, but also with a renewed sense of responsibility. "It was so cool to see those flips, but what really stuck with me was their message. It made me realise that we all have a part to play in making our school a better place."
Winner of the $100 Gift Card from Camden Council
Last term, Elderslie High School proudly hosted our inaugural Wellbeing Services Expo, an event designed to support and inform students in Years 9-12 about the resources available for their mental and emotional health. After attending the expo, students were invited to share their feedback through a brief survey, offering their thoughts and suggestions for future events.
We were fortunate to have Camden Council generously donate a $100 gift card as a prize for one lucky student who participated in the survey. The winner was chosen at random, and PJ from Camden Council joined us at our assembly to present the gift card to our winner, Jacob Mulchay, Year 9.
Congratulations to Jacob, and thank you for your valuable feedback! Your input will help us make our next Wellbeing Services Expo even better.
Tony Hoang
With over 20 years of experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds, Tony has become an inspiration and empowerment for our young people. Known for his humour, passion, and enthusiasm, Tony has a unique ability to engage audiences, leaving a lasting impact wherever he goes. This term our Year 11 and 12 students were fortunate to see Tony and could meet him after the presentation.
As a dynamic presenter, Tony doesn't just speak to his audience—he connects with them. His presentations are more than just talks; they are powerful experiences designed to empower, encourage, and inspire. Through a confronting and thought-provoking multimedia presentation, Tony unpacks the often-glorified criminal lifestyle, revealing the harsh realities behind it. Drawing from his real-life experiences, he challenges perceptions and offers a different view of the consequences of such a path.
Tony's story is one of unparalleled courage, resilience, and hope. Despite facing significant opposition, he has emerged stronger, using his journey as a tool to educate and uplift others. His presentations encouraging young people to make positive choices and embrace the potential within themselves.
Talk2MeBro
The recent Talk2MeBro presentation at Elderslie High School was more than just an event—it was a powerful experience that resonated deeply with students in years 9 and 10. Known for its innovative approach to communication and connection, Talk2MeBro aims to break down barriers that often prevent young people from seeking help or expressing themselves openly.
The presentation was emotional and engaging, combining multimedia elements with real-life stories that hit close to home for many in the audience. It addressed critical issues such as mental health, suicide awareness, and the importance of open communication, all while encouraging students to support one another and to reach out when they need help.
Through humour, honesty, and heartfelt messages, the Talk2MeBro team created an atmosphere of trust and openness, making it clear that no one should have to face their struggles alone. The presenters, Freddy and Dan emphasised that talking to someone—whether it’s a friend, teacher, or counsellor—can make all the difference.
Our students left the presentation feeling not only inspired but also more equipped to handle the challenges they face in their daily lives and have even asked for Talk2MeBro to return to Elderslie High!
Breakfast Club
Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, our school offers a breakfast club service to ensure that all students can start their day with a nutritious meal. This service is especially important for those who may not have the chance to eat before school. By providing free breakfasts, we are not only supporting our students' physical health but also boosting their mental well-being.
The benefits of the breakfast club are clear: students who participate enjoy improved nutrition, better school attendance, and increased engagement in the classroom. Additionally, the relaxed setting allows students to develop their interpersonal skills through socialising with peers outside the traditional classroom environment. It also gives our staff valuable opportunities to check in with students, offering support and fostering stronger connections.
Breakfast Club: Tuesday 8:15am -8:40am located in the lower library
Grab n Go Breakfast: Thursday 8:30 – 8:40am located in the library foyer
Our Breakfast Club is proudly sponsored by Camden Woolworths. Without their loyal support, we would not be able to provide our students with their wholesome breakfast each week.
Thank you, Camden Woolworths!
