School Musical 2025

We are still unpacking and putting away costumes and props from this year’s Musical, Mary Poppins and we are starting to talk about Musical 2025. Check out the photo of the bags of laundry returning, it is crazy!!!.  Now the discussion has turned to…”Will we have enough cast members to do a School Musical in 2025?  If yes, what Musical will be doing in 2025?”.  Students were asked to express their interest in participating via a Google Form that was due on the 25th September. Stay tuned for more details about Musical 2025!

The Drama Ensemble are preparing for their CAPA Evening performance in rehearsals each week.  They are playbuilding a piece about a school excursion to an art gallery and developing some performance art, as seen in Caravaggio’s Tableaux Vivants.  We are developing our understanding of the principles of art, rhythm and movement.  The students are really enjoying playbilding their piece for the evening.

Music

Congratulations to the Year 12 Music class on completing their HSC Music Practical Examinations on Wednesday 11th September.  Thank you to all of the students who supported the Year 12 students with their performances.  Well done to all!

Visual Arts

Congratulations to the Year 12 Visual Arts class on submitting their HSC Body of Works on Monday 28th August. It took a lot of bubble wrap and brown paper to get all of their beautiful artworks ready for the courier to deliver them to the Marking Centre.  Well done to all!

In other classes, Year 7 have been designing and making ceramic tiles based on a preliminary study of the Great Barrier Reef and what is happening to it. They have been inspired in this by a few artists, in particular, Jason Decaires Taylor whose concrete figurative sculptures have been submerged in underwater museums around the world. The sculptures attract biological marine organisms to grow on them, becoming colourful and part of  the life of the sea.  Year 7 have also been creating landscapes with collage included, based on the work of famous Australian artist, Albert Namatjira.

Year 8 Visual Arts students have made recontextualised and appropriated artworks based on the Pop Art of Roy Lichtenstein and his cartoonesque artworks, adding collaged contemporary images and bright colour to their own works. They are beginning collaborative dinner party sculptures referencing again Pop Art and sculptures by Claes Oldenbeg and his soft, large artworks of pegs, icecreams, cherries and many more.

Year 9 have painted self portraits, again using the Postmodern idea of appropriation and recontextualisation. The Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and her surreal self portraits have been the inspiration behind these artworks.

Year 10 have created ceramic masks, referencing historical ceramic masks. This program gave them the chance to research mask making, in particular ceramic masks throughout art cultural history, finding out the uses and meanings of these objects.

Year 11 students are pursuing a variety of media experiments and subject matter in their quest to find materials and techniques that will show their ability and skills in their HSC body of work. They are also examining artists and artworks through case studies that will continue into Year 12.

The following students have entered their artwork into the Fisher’s Ghost Art Competition.  Maddison Simpson, Angus McKenzie, Riley O'Malley, Lindsay Carr, Caleb Whitehead, Harry Barker, Cooper Skrzypek, Akira McCarthy, Charlotte McKenzie, Evie Moores, Zali Ryan, Amanda Vongpoothorn, Molly Simpson, Cooper Lee, Scarlett Bowser, Cybella Monro, Lucy Egan, Verity Woodward and Remy Goodacre.

It is all systems go in Visual Arts and we are all looking forward to a prosperous and practical Term 4.

Farewell Year 12, we hope you pursue artmaking in the future.
