Specialist Feature News: Science
Selamat Siang,
What an incredible first week back!
Our 1/2 students are very excited to be starting their new unit 'Dinosaurs and More'. We are going to be diving into the world of prehistoric animals and making comparisons between these extinct creatures and modern animals; comparing things like teeth and bones, defensive features, diets and behaviours. This week the students began their journey by considering their pre-knowledge and brainstorming what they already know about dinosaurs, and their knowledge was very impressive! They also had the opportunity to use their creativity to create a clay model of what they believe dinosaurs may have looked like!
Our 5/6s are investigating microorganisms this term; including bacteria, viruses and fungi. This week during our introduction to the unit, the students began making connections to the learning they did in Term 1, building on their existing knowledge of what microorganisms are and how we use them (eg. in food and medicine). Our 5/6s also had fun exploring some engaging interactive resources and websites this week, including the 'bacteria cafeteria' game. In the coming weeks, students will get to experiment with yeast and plan an investigation where they can examine the growth and change of mould.
We congratulate the students for a really successful year in Science so far, and for their amazing Term 3 portfolio tasks. We look forward to all of the exciting learning we have coming up and wish everyone an awesome Term 4!
