Wellbeing Report

Wellbeing Week 7th - 11th October

October marks Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year’s theme, “Let’s Talk About It,” encourages us all to reflect on our mental health and overall wellbeing, whether we’ve experienced mental illness. The theme underscores the importance of prioritising mental health in our daily lives and taking a proactive approach to seeking support when needed.

At Saltwater P-9 College, our Wellbeing Team collaborated with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS), Headspace, and Youth Projects to provide valuable information and resources for students, staff, and families. These partnerships aim to equip the school community with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate challenges both during and after school life.

Zali from VIS delivered the Be Fit. Be Well program to Year 6 students, discussing practical strategies to incorporate into their daily routines to stay both physically and mentally fit.

Students from Years 7, 8, and 9 participated in a presentation by Elly and Anna, both former and current professional athletes at the AIS. The presentation focused on the concept of mental fitness, with Elly and Anna sharing the challenges they faced in balancing their developing athletic careers with the demands of day-to-day school life.

Through an engaging discussion, students at Saltwater P-9 College were able to connect their own experiences with those of their older mentors. The AIS, in collaboration with the Black Dog Institute, aims to promote mental fitness strategies across Victorian schools.

We also welcomed Simone from Headspace and Tim from Youth Projects, who introduced their services available in Werribee. Headspace operates across Victoria, offering a wide range of services to support young people. Youth Projects, focused on students aged 15 and over, works to keep students engaged in their education. They collaborate with many schools throughout the Wyndham community.

At Saltwater P-9 College, we have a dedicated Wellbeing Team committed to supporting all students. The team provides a referral system that teachers and leaders can easily access to ensure students receive the help and support they need to thrive both academically and personally.
