Breaksea House News

As Term Three comes to a close, it’s hard to believe just how much we’ve packed into these past few months. From academic achievements to unforgettable experiences, it has truly been a remarkable time for all of us in Breaksea.

One of the highlights of this term was the Year Twelve House Dinners, a memorable occasion celebrating our seniors. Adding to the excitement, the Outdoor Education students embarked on a mountain biking camp, challenging their skills and building resilience. We also had the Kingfisher Concert, which was nothing short of spectacular, thanks to the performers' hard work and dedication. Their passion was matched by the creativity displayed at the Art Exhibition, showcasing our school's immense talent.

We celebrated some significant milestones, with Tyla Climie, Holly Cole, and Esther Barrett-Lennad marking their 18th and 16th birthdays, respectively... and who could forget Pink Day, where we came together to raise awareness and celebrate our community spirit.

This week, we saw the Year Twelve students tackle their exams while the Year Elevens participated in a leaders' retreat, setting the stage for the next wave of student leadership.

Speaking of leadership, I’m thrilled to announce Chloe Climie as the Boarding Captain for 2025. Chloe is an exceptional student, known for her kindness, attentiveness, and ability to listen to others. Undoubtedly, she will excel in her new role and continue to lead Breaksea with grace and determination. I also want to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to Brianna Cunningham, Xanthe O'Neill, and Georgia Williams for their leadership this year. Their insightful ideas and contributions have shaped Breaksea in countless ways. Congratulations to Mariella Somerscales and Amy Medway, who’ve been appointed House Captain and School Captain respectively. It fills me with pride to see so many promising leaders emerging from Breaksea.

Sport was another area where Breaksea shone. I had the privilege of watching both Griffins Finals over the weekend. A huge congratulations to Esther Barrett-Lennard, Katelin Woithe, Matilda Norrish, Emmeline Cunningham, Brianna Cunningham, Wayahpo Manolis, Amber Pearce, and Lysbeth Cunningham for their thrilling victory over Spencer Park. It’s extraordinary to note that over half the Hockey team are Breaksea boarders! Well done also to Amy Medway and Madison Beeck on their well-deserved Netball win. You both played brilliantly.

Finally, I want to bid a heartfelt farewell to our Year Twelve students. This has been my first year as Head of Breaksea, and I am incredibly grateful for the relationships I’ve built with these charismatic, strong, and independent individuals. Their gratitude, shared at the Progressive Dinner between Eclipse and Breaksea last Tuesday, was touching, and I know they will thrive beyond the gates of GSG. I’ll save my parting words for the Farewell Dinner next term, but for now, I wish them all the best - work hard, play hard, and above all, enjoy life!

Goodbye and good luck, Year Twelves!
