Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,

Welcome back to Term 3.

It is hard to believe we have already started planning for 2026 and students in Years 8-11 have already commenced their subject selection process for next year. Please refer to Compass posts and emails to support your children in meeting the due dates.

We look forward to the Year 10 course counselling on Tuesday 5th August. Please make sure you all allow time to explore the career expo that will be the the S building from 1-5 pm. Families who do not have students in Year 10 are still welcome to attend the Expo after school. Please contact our careers team if you have any questions.

This term, we finally get to enjoy the long-awaited performances of our College Production "Rock of Ages" on the 28th and 29th of August. Keep an eye out for ticket information as tickets will be on sale soon.

NAPLAN results for our Year 7 and 9 students were sent home in week one of this term. We had some pleasing results for NAPLAN this year and many students have been presented with certificates to acknowledge either excellent growth in their NAPLAN assessment or to acknowledge high academic achievement.

Today we celebrated so many wonderful opportunities for connection at our first Secondary Years Assembly of the term. We were treated to a fabulous performance from the cast of our College Production "Rock of Ages" and our Year 11 Rock Band. We also celebrated so many fantastic opportunities for students at HGC with a reflection from some Year 9 students about their Personal Best projects, our Sports Captains about our Term 2 sporting achievements and opportunities for Term 3 and finally a reflection from students who attended the Ngukkar NT trip. You can read more about these events in the Celebrations of Learning section of the newsletter.

There are some exciting events coming up this term, including  Science Week and National Week against Bullying in Week 4, Book Week in Week 5 with the theme of "Book an Adventure", College Production on the 28th and 29th of August, Father's Day Breakfast on the 2nd September, R U OK? Day on the 11th September, Year 9 Camp in Week 9 and we finish the term with Footy Day on the last 19th September.
