Message from the Principal

St Peter’s School - an empowered faith community to enrich the world.

Welcome to Week 10 of Term 2

Preparations are almost finalised as we head in to the weekend to celebrate 70 years of St Peter's School.

I feel humbled to be a very small part of the history of this school and hope we are currently living the values that the Brigidine sisters instilled in the school from 1955 when it was established.

I have been amazed at the response from alumni of St Peter's School who will be joining in the open school event and afternoon tea on Wednesday 2 July. I am sure there will be many memories shared! Due to catering requirements, rsvp's for the afternoon tea are now closed but everyone is welcome to come and have a look around the school from 2:30pm and share in the learning of our students this term.

Ticket sales for the disco on Friday are also closed - again due to catering requirements. I am sorry for those in the community who missed out on tickets.

I am looking forward to the next week of celebration- remembering the past with our historical timeline which will be available to view in the parish community centre, and looking forward to the future with our redevelopment project commencing at the end of this year. Thank you to everyone for your support of these events. I encourage you to read our Religious Education page as Ms Devisser has highlighted the values of St Peter and how we live out these values today as a community.

 First Communion

A wonderful celebration was held on Sunday 22 June as Year 3 students received the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time. Well done to Addy, Julia, Yashwin, Selena, Aaron, Sammi, Shanaya, Matheo and Phardon for preparing themselves so well to reverently receive this sacrament.

They enjoyed a well-earned pizza lunch on Monday to celebrate!

Thank you to everyone who has supported these students on their faith journey so far- especially parents, Mrs Devisser, Ms Abrahams, Ms Kurzel and Fr Andrew.

I look forward to seeing these students living their faith - completing acts of service , being the face of God in our world.

St Peter's Got Talent

What a wonderful afternoon we had on Wednesday, with students showcasing their many talents - from singing, to instrumental excellence, to oratory expertise- our students are defintely talented!

I thank the The Arts leaders (Haley, Clare

Bhavishya, Esther and Heshanya) for their organisation and support of the performers and The Technology team ( Punya, Daniel D, Jacob, Damien, Andi and Ryan) for assisting back stage and the technology set up. They were all wonderfully guided by Ms Scott. All these people sacrificed lunch times to ensure the show was a seamless performance.

Congratulations to:

Staff news

We send all our best wishes to Ms Scott who will be taking Long Service leave for the whole of Term 3. We wish her well and look forward to her return in Term 4.

Reports

Semester 1 reports are being finalised and will be released through PAM in the last week of term. This year there are changes to student reporting for Mathematics in Victorian Catholic schools.

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) published a revised Mathematics curriculum (Mathematics Version 2.0), which we have started to use this year.

On your child’s previous report, the teacher reported against the three strands of the achievement standard for Mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). Under the Mathematics Version 2.0 curriculum, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score.

As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the first time you receive a report under the Mathematics Version 2.0 curriculum, it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.

The VCAA made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in Mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within Mathematics and also with other curriculum areas.

If you have any queries about your child’s report, please contact the class teacher.

We will be hositing Student Led learning conversations on Thursday 7 August. School will finish at 1pm, with bookings to be made available for families to meet with class teachers (from 2pm-7pm) to hear about the growth and progress being made by our students. Please put this date in your diary!
