Year 11 and 12

As we end one of the busiest times and longest term of the year , we encourage all Senior School students to reflect on their achievements for Semester 1 and their start to Semester 2. The term break is a wonderful opportunity for all to both recharge their batteries with rest and quality time with family and friends and to reset and prepare for the term ahead.

Warm regards,

Year 11

Unit 1 Results Finalised

Our students have now completed their Unit 1 studies, culminating with exams in Week 8. Students did a fantastic job during the exam period, arriving at school for their scheduled exam in full school uniform and with a positive mindset. It was also common to see The Hub filled with students completing exam revision outside of their scheduled exams; an example of dedication and commitment to learning demonstrated by many of our students. All of our students across VCE and VCE VM should be aware of their results and academic progress ahead of the release of the mid-year reports.

Unit 2 Begins

Following the exam period, students launched straight into Unit 2 of their subjects for the last 2 weeks before the term break. This has been a fantastic opportunity for many to set new goals and build upon successes in Unit 1 as well as the continuation of positive habits built across the year. We look forward to a successful and positive remainder of the school year for our VCE and VCE VM students.

Formal

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the students, families and staff who helped make the Year 11 Formal such a memorable evening. Held at Lakeside Convention Centre, Taylors Lakes, the night was filled with laughter, dancing, and celebration. Our students looked fantastic in their formal attire and represented the school with maturity and positivity.

A special thank you to the staff who attended and supported the evening, and to parents and guardians for your continued encouragement and support.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students and look forward to more shared successes in the year ahead.

Warm regards,

Year 12

As we near the end of Term 2, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on our students' recent progress, the upcoming learning our Year 12s will begin, and school events that will support them both academically and personally.

Yr 12 Physics Excursion

On May 20th, our Year 12 Physics students had the exciting opportunity to visit the Australian Synchrotron as part of their Unit 3 studies. This excursion offered a rare glimpse into one of Australia’s most sophisticated scientific research centres.

Students learned how particle accelerators are applied in real-world scenarios, from advancing medical imaging to supporting environmental science and materials research. They also took part in a hands-on lab activity, deepening their understanding of how theoretical concepts are used in cutting-edge technology.

The visit also highlighted potential career pathways in science and engineering, with students gaining insight into the collaborative work of physicists, researchers, and technicians at the facility. For many, it was a chance to see how their classroom learning connects to real-world innovation and global scientific progress.

🎓Wrapping up Unit 3

Our Year 12 students concluded their Unit 3 studies in Week 8. Teachers have been impressed with the level of commitment and growth that many of our students have shown since starting their journey in 2025. All Unit 3 assessments are complete, and students' results should have been received prior to our upcoming semester reports. All students are encouraged to continue preparing diligently and seeking feedback on areas in Unit 3 that they can continue to improve upon; using this will strengthen their understanding heading into Unit 4. This completion marks a significant milestone in the academic year, and we congratulate all students for reaching this point.

📘 Looking Ahead to Unit 4

Now that Unit 4 has begun for all of our Year 12 students, we recognise that this is an important and often intense stage of the academic year as we head toward final assessments at Sunbury College. Students will be introduced to their last units of content, complete their remaining outcomes, and have more exposure to build on their exam-based skills. The work students complete from this point onward will have a direct impact on their study scores and ATAR outcomes.

We cannot overstate the importance of a structured and strategic approach during this time. Students are encouraged to:

  • Set clear academic goals for each subject and track progress weekly.
  • Develop a consistent study routine that includes review of Unit 3 material, which often forms the foundation for Unit 4 concepts and prepares our students for their exams.
  • Seek timely feedback from their teachers, act on it, and maintain open communication for guidance and support.
  • Make use of school resources such as private study rooms, tutoring sessions, or study groups.
  • Balance study with self-care to maintain wellbeing and prevent burnout.

Parents can support their children by helping them maintain a quiet study environment at home, encouraging open conversations about work and stress, and helping them access support when needed. Success in Unit 4 comes from consistency, not just cramming at the end. Let’s all work together to support our students as they begin this final and vital stage of their VCE journey.

🍽️ Positive Changes in the Lunch/Private Study Room

We’ve seen encouraging improvements in the way students are using the lunchroom and private study spaces. There’s been a noticeable shift in behaviour, with more students taking responsibility for tidiness and using the study room for focused, independent work. While we still have a little way to go in fully maximising this space, students are taking the initiative to speak to and or identify those not doing the right thing, and minimising the disruption to the majority of students. It is reminded that there are to be NO MOBILE PHONES in this room and that private study sessions are to be completed with minimal disruption to fellow students. Thank you to those students utilising the Private Study room responsibly and respectfully.

🌟 Meet the Duxes Evening

We would like to thank all students and their families who came along to the Meet the Duxes Evening. This inspiring event gave this year's students and their families the chance to hear directly from previous duxes and high achievers about their journeys, strategies, and insights into staying motivated. It enabled our past performers to inspire our up and coming graduates. We thank all families and students past and present for making this evening a huge success.

💬 Feedback & Ideas for PC (Pastoral Care) in Term 3

We continue to review previous feedback from all our students regarding our PC sessions for Term 3, and are keen to continue utilising student ideas for PC in Term 3 so that it continues to be relevant and engaging for students. Ideas under discussion include:

  • Study and time management workshops
  • Wellbeing check-ins and mindfulness activities
  • Guest speakers on resilience, exam preparation, and careers
  • Peer-led discussions and mentoring sessions

We would love to hear more from students about what could be included in future PC sessions. Please share suggestions with PC teachers or contact your Coordinators.

Thank you to all families for your continued support. We’re proud of our students’ achievements this term and are excited for the upcoming opportunities in Term 3 and 4.

Warm regards,
