Year 9 and 10

With Semester 2 coming to an end, it is important to reflect on the hard work students have done over their elective subjects and the success they have seen in these spaces. Year 9s have shown a tremendous amount of application and effort in their elective subjects and we have seen some really positive feedback from teachers who have continuously commented on the engagement they are seeing from the Year 9 cohort.
We look forward to seeing the same level of enthusiasm in Term 3, with new electives starting, along with the NAARM Engagement Program running throughout the term.
We would also like to congratulate our Year 10 cohort who sat their first ever exams and undertook work experience over a two week period. The level of excitement that was met by staff who did workplace visits was something that was reflected on amongst colleagues. We have loved seeing the rigour and discipline our Year 10 students have shown, especially those who had to work early hours or even engage in activities out of their typical comfort zone within the workplace.
As we focus on Semester 2, it's important for all Year 9 and 10 students to remember that our discussions around subject selection and course counselling increases. With that, so will the importance of student engagement in elective subjects. We encourage all Middle School students to chat about course subjects with the Sub School Team and if there are any misunderstandings or need for further support, to speak with their coordinators so they have the best information possible before entering their choices in Term 3.
Warm regards,
Amelia Beardmore
Middle Sub School Leader
Year 9
Firstly, we’d like to warmly welcome Helen Myroforidis-Papadopoulos to the Year 9 team! Many families may already know Helen, and we’re excited to be working with her in her new role. While Rachel Harris will continue to support students in 9A-D, Helen will be the coordinator for 9E-G. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the coordinator linked to your child’s PC group if you have any questions or concerns.
This term, our Year 9 students have been reflecting on themselves and their futures. After completing their Morrisby profiling, they’ve now had their career counselling sessions, which then fed into the Subject Selection Fair. This event gave students the opportunity to explore the subjects offered at Sunbury College in Year 10 and engage with each faculty to better understand the differences between subject options. Looking ahead to next term, students will be making their elective selections for next year. If your child has any subject-specific questions, we encourage them to reach out directly to teachers in those subject areas.
With regards to the Naarm Engagement Program, Year 9 students were recently visited by local police, who provided a timely reminder about strategies for keeping themselves safe on public transport and in the city. Thank you to all families who have already provided consent for their child to attend the program and returned the Code of Conduct. If you haven’t yet completed this process, we ask that you do so as soon as possible. Consent and payment can be completed via Compass, and extra copies of the Code of Conduct are available from the Middle Years Office. If your child is not attending, please decline the event on Compass so that we are aware.

• refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing
• automotive, marine, aviation, and aerospace
• solar and wind clean energy
• foundry and mining
• transport and logistics
• agriculture and horticulture
• gaming, cloud, and robotics
• civil assets management, and infrastructure
• defence, essential services, and fire protection.
Salesforce Conference
On Wednesday 25th June, students in Year 9 and 10 travelled to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, and attended the Technology and AI conference held by Salesforce. It was an exciting event with students given a taster of what a career in the fields of Tech, AI and Event Management could be like for them.
Year 10
Our Year 10 students have had a busy term with their first round of exams and work experience now completed. They should be proud of their efforts and preparation for exams, as well as their endeavour throughout; representing themselves and the school with pride. Employers spoke highly of the students' efforts, engagement, and willingness to learn during work experience, with a number of students being offered casual positions. Congratulations to all who made the most of this opportunity and the learning that came with it!
On Wednesday 2nd of July, Year 10 students were introduced to course selection and the VCE/ VCE VM options available at Sunbury College. Following the success of the evening, students will now begin the process of selecting the pathway option they wish to choose for 2025 and career planning. Sunbury College prides itself on discussing and planning future options for senior students and strives to ensure each student positively engages in course counselling and planning before entering their final years of schooling.
