Year 7 and 8

It has been a busy and exciting time in the Junior School this term. Students across Years 7 and 8 have shown fantastic growth in their learning, with noticeable improvements in work habits and engagement across all areas of the curriculum. We are incredibly proud of the way our students are taking greater ownership of their learning and demonstrating consistent positive behaviour.
A big congratulations goes to the students who achieved an average Work Habits score of 3.90 or above—an excellent achievement! These students were celebrated with a well-deserved pizza lunch, acknowledging their hard work and commitment throughout the term.
Our VHAP (Victorian High-Ability Program) students have also been busy extending their learning beyond the classroom. This term, seven students participated in the program, diving deeper into English and Mathematics concepts and building their critical and creative thinking skills. Well done to these students for embracing this opportunity with such enthusiasm!
Term 2 was also packed with exciting extra-curricular activities. The Athletics Carnival was a highlight, bringing out great sportsmanship, house pride and plenty of colourful outfits! Our students also took part in a range of inter-school sports, proudly representing Sunbury College with energy and team spirit.
Year 8 students took an important step towards their future pathways by attending the ‘Subject Selection Fair’, where they explored electives and spoke with staff about their options for 2026. It was fantastic to see such mature thinking and curiosity from our students during this event.
The Game Changers program continued this term, offering students a unique opportunity to build leadership and innovation skills. Meanwhile, our regular Friday Quizzes in Year 8 have become a fun and competitive way to wrap up the week, encouraging teamwork and a love of learning.
A special mention to the students involved in the Weights Engagement Program with Aaron, our youth worker. This initiative has not only supported physical wellbeing but also helped build confidence, discipline, and a sense of routine in our students.
It’s been a term filled with learning, laughter, and leadership. We look forward to building on this momentum in Term 3. Thank you to all students, staff, and families for your ongoing support.
Warm regards,
Egmond Molenaar and the Junior Sub School Team
