Year 6 Newsletter
Dear parents and carers,
We have almost hit the halfway point in term 2 and the students have been busy! We had a fantastic round of ISS last Friday with all our students putting in great efforts.
This week in Year 6
Maths: Our multiplication unit continues, and this week we have explored multiplying and simplifying fractions. We have also broached the topic of multiplying positive and negative numbers. We are also examining the relationship between multiplication and division as we begin to take a more indepth look at division.
Reading: Our Literacy Circles are in full swing, with students progressing through their book and participating in their first meeting. While students are permitted to take their lit circle books home, it is crucial that it returns to school every day for use in class. Students are also encouraged to complete any unfinished work at home before their meeting so that all roles for the week are ready to be discussed. They can complete these on their own devices using google classroom.
Writing: Students have continued to work on persuasive writing, and are now turning their attention towards debating. We have examined what the rules are strategies of debates, and are moving towards holding mediated debates in the classroom.
Inquiry: There has been much interest and intense negotiation among the students over the progress of their colony displayed on their classroom map. Some colonies have been lucky to discover diamond reserves, gold or oil. Some colonies are struggling to get their economy rolling and need to look to others to broker deals. It is a heated and passionate debate among the class that the students have really embraced!
