Year 4 Newsletter

Dear parents,

What a wonderful day we had yesterday celebrating our school's 100th Birthday. The year 4 students were involved in three fun rotations, completing activities acknowledging the school's 100th Birthday. We played olden days games, made a time capsule and visualised what the school may look like in another hundred years. The highlight was by far the morning welcome with the lovely presentations and performances form our students.

What's happened in year 4 this week?

English – This week in Reading we focused on comparing texts, film and images from different times. We discussed how schools, clothing and food have changed over the years and we watched a clip from the 1956 Olympics.

Maths – This week we have focused on multiplication facts up to 10 × 10 and related division facts, and investigated the patterns in these, including number sequences involving multiples of 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9.

Inquiry – ‘How did the arrival of the first fleet impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders?’

This week in Inquiry, we have investigated how the contact between Indigenous Peoples and those on the First Fleet have impacted the daily lives of Indigenous Australia.

Tuesday Activity Afternoons- Thank you to those parent volunteers who have been running an activity for our year 4 students. It definitely is a highlight and something the students look forward to each week. There will be NO lesson next week (Tuesday 28th May) due to our School Athletics Carnival. We then have 2 weeks to go (Tuesday 4th & 11th June).

At Home Project - Students should have completed the fourth component of their research Week 6 titled ‘Connections’ and returned this to their teacher. We expect students to be preparing for their presentation and writing their cue cards to be ready to present their projects in week 8 (beginning Monday 3rd June). By next Thursday - 30th June, students need to have shown their teacher how they plan to present their research to the class.

Homework - Homework this week continues to consist of:

  • Minimum 4 nights reading with at least 80 minutes per week recorded in school diary (Book title, pages read, minutes read).
  • Diary is to be brought to school each Thursday signed by parents.
  • At home project - Students should now be completing their presentations for the next week.
  • No set Mathletics tasks. We encourage you to complete the Multiplication and Division sections of Mathletics over the next few weeks.
