Japanese

Year 2 have been learning ‘here, there, and over there’ in Japanese. Junko sensei and Aya sensei were pleasantly surprised at how well they can retell the story of ‘Where’s the Green Sheep?’ in Japanese. Fantastic work, Year 2 students!

Year 2 and Foundation students had an opportunity to learn about the rainy season in Japan this week. June is usually the start of the rainy season in Japan, and it is very important to have a decent rainfall during this time to grow rice plants. Japanese children often make a teru teru bozu to wish for nice weather during the rainy season, and Foundation tried this themselves.

During the rainy season, there are some commonly seen creatures in Japan – katatsumuri (snail) and amagaeru (rain frog). YR2 tried and followed instructions to create an origami frog. Many studies show that following instructions, folding paper precisely, and understanding different folds are all great training for their brains and fine motor skills. Well done, Foundation and YR2 students!
