KLA Feature - Mathematics
The focus in Mathematics this year is to develop students’ problem-solving skills in a wide range of contexts. Students have been exploring concepts through manipulatives and by engaging in creative and hands-on activities.
In Year 12, Advanced students are applying the concepts of Series to borrowing and investing money and representing financial plans such as superannuation. Standard 2 students are looking at networks and critical path analysis, a useful tool in project planning, management and logistics. Standard 1 students are applying Trigonometry concepts to measuring the elevation of buildings.
Year 11 Advanced classes are learning to use algebraic and graphical techniques to investigate trigonometry concepts. Standard classes are investigating statistical processes and analysing a range of data.
In Year 9 and 10, students are exploring the applications of surface area and volume and are developing their understanding of surds and indices.
Year 7 students have immersed themselves in high school Mathematics, developing their numeracy skills with integers, fractions and decimals over the past two terms. Year 8 students were introduced to Pythagoras' Theorem and its many useful applications. They eagerly participated in a treasure hunt game to enhance their understanding of the concepts.
Our aim at the college is for our students to understand that Mathematics teaches us to think critically and logically and that this extends into other areas of our lives.
We would like to remind parents to have a conversation with their daughters about utilising the additional support offered by the college. Students have access to Mathematics Workshop and the Maths Online program to supplement their learning.
