National Reconciliation Week

This week is Reconciliation Week, which is an opportunity to reflect on reconciliation and engage in conversations that increase understanding of the vital role this movement supports. It is about gathering ideas, generating energy and forming a direction for the ongoing actions that are required to make meaningful change. Further information and resources can be found here https://www.reconciliation.org.au/our-work/national-reconciliation-week/.

A number of experiences have been organised for our students that we hope will be engaging and meaningful opportunities to spark the conversation around reconciliation. At the heart of it all, we are looking to encourage the important yarns to reflect, extend our knowledge and to offer a safe place for students to ask questions & explore the aboriginal culture through stories.

To begin Reconciliation Week, members of our school community were asked to 'Wear a touch of yellow' on Monday 27th. The aim of this was to create a strong visual message of respecting our First Nation's culture. Thank you to all parents and carers who supported their children to be involved in this event on Monday, it is very much appreciated.

The table below sets out the opportunities that students will have throughout the week to be involved in.  Many thanks to Mr Rogers, Mr Georgiou and our Educational Support Team who organised and facilitated the activities.

Here’s some of our students taking part in yesterday’s didgeridoo making activity, which was hugely successful and very popular!

National Simultaneous Storytime

Last Wednesday, classes across both campuses participated in National Simultaneous Story Time along with over 2 million students, teachers, and members of the community across the country. It was lovely to see lots of classes participating, students listening to the story and then some follow up activities taking place. Bowerbird Blues is a beautiful book that engages children of all ages with its stunning imagery, a story filled with emotion, and its messages around social issues.

Our brilliant ES ran activities during lunchtime club, incorporating some follow up activities into their program, allowing students to continue exploring the storyline concept. The building of the bowerbird nest was very impressive and students had lots of fun!
