Once again HEPS has had a busy and productive fortnight.

Monday evening, our school hosted a cybersaftey presentation for families. Many families came along to learn about ways in which they can support their child to interact safely with digital technologies. This is such a critical aspect of parenting in our times where children are quickly and readily able to access vast amounts of information and easily commuicate with people from anywhere in the world. Our children often surprise us with the amount of knowledge they have around accessing social media both in ways that are easily able to be monitored and through hidden accounts. I strongly encourage all parents to monitor their children's use of devices. There are many online resources that can help you to do so.

Last Friday our school was buzzing. We welcomed grandparents and special friends to join us and share in our science experiences. There were many constructions with paper triangles, testing of bridge constructions, creation of bouncy balls, and the ever popular and messy ooblek. The fun for all was evident on both the grandparents and childrens faces. Some of the photos of the day are in the Specialists section of this newsletter. Thank you to all of the grandparents and special friends who took time out of their week to spend time with our students. These experiences are valued and remembered.

Today we are celebrating book week.  The theme this year is Read, Grow, Inspire. This annual event is a favourite with both teachers and students and is important in cultivating  a life long love of books and reading. Each year we are amazed by the creativity of the costumes, and through this learn about the favourites of the children. I think the adult community is often as excited as the children.

Across the school our children have also engaged with many other special events, including the instrumental concert, Olympiads Maths students working with Heathmont college, and a Downball competetion. We have also welcomed Kinder students to the school with our Storytime program and Megumi Sensei  has visited our school from Japan.

And to close my newsletter this week, I would again like to ask parents who have received an invitation to the Parent Opinion survey to engage with the survey. We do highly value your responses and we reflect on our parent voice when planning for the future direction of HEPS.
