Level 4

Level 4

Recently in Level 4, we have been very busy with lots of events. Some of us have had a chance to experience a Life Education session, where we got to learn about body safety. We also got to celebrate Grandparent’s/Special Person’s Day, which involved some fun science-based activities in light of Science Week, as well as some tasks that focused on our loved ones.

Reading

Recently in Reading, we have been diving into analysing to deepen our comprehension. In doing so, we have been thinking within, about and beyond our selected texts to break down and examine text structures, characters and settings. This involves considering the organisation of texts, the types of traits characters possess and the actions they take, and the impact the setting has on the character’s world view.

Writing

In Writing, we have started on our new genre, personal narratives. In these narratives, we have to make sure that we are the main characters. Our first prompt was to write about a time where we experienced something new. To help ensure our writing is engaging, we have been using checklists to remind us to include specific text features, such as a strong hook, dialogue and transition words. We have begun writing our second narrative with a topic of our choice. It has been great to see all the creativity and exciting experiences that the students have encountered.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we have been learning about multiplication and division. As a warm up for some lessons, we have been using our estimation skills and a set of clues to guess the total number of items in a cup. After some practise, it was time to create our own for others to solve. Some clues involved factors and multiples. We have also been focusing on our problem-solving skills and developing our ability to demonstrate a range of strategies.

Inquiry

As we are coming towards the end of term, our Inquiry projects are now underway. With our unit focus of ‘Forces’, students have been tasked with creating a rollercoaster model that explores forces, such as friction and gravity. By following a scientific and engineering process, we have researched for inspiration, created a hypothesis, designed our ideas and are beginning to build. The students have been displaying a great sense of teamwork with their partner to bring their amazing creations to life.
