The Voice to Parliament Referendum

Since the last edition of the Rise and Shine the Commonwealth government held a referendum on whether to alter the Australian Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. For many Australians, the outcome of the referendum has caused disappointment and distress. To those in our community who require additional support during this time, particularly our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families, please reach out to us if you need. The following mental health supports are also available:

World Teachers’ Day

Friday 27 October marked World Teachers’ Day. To celebrate and acknowledge our wonderful teachers we encouraged teachers to dress as students and students to dress as teachers, and Big Childcare provided apples and apple cider galore! Why apples? Because historically, apples were seen as a representation of knowledge and wisdom, and by giving one to a teacher, students acknowledged the importance of education in their lives.

Our community owes a great deal to our teachers for the work they do at our school every day. So, we say a heartfelt thank you to all the teachers at Tarneit Rise Primary School. Thank you for supporting the wellbeing and learning of every one of our children. Thank you for ensuring our children have the literacy, numeracy, digital skills, and emotional intelligence they will need to be participatory citizens. Thank you for creating classroom environments that are neuro affirming, so all our children flourish. Thank you for providing our children with the opportunity to pursue their interests and talents in dance, drama, sport, art, French, and the sciences.

A million times over, thank you.
